Here is a plan of action I can recommend...
1. Go in for an initial assessment by a clinical psychologist. Make sure this psychologist is a PhD, not a "psychotherapist" or some other BS. You can also see a psychiatrist, but it will cost more (but not always). Have the doctor give you a battery of psycho-metric tests, along with a typical interview.
2. Before you do ANYTHING or take ANY medications, get a definitive diagnosis. Then, if possible, attempt to pay for both the meds and the doctor out of pocket. Schizophrenia is a chronic disorder, and if your health insurance company gets wind of this, they may
a) try to drop your coverage
b) if you lose your coverage through a job loss, etc. you will NEVER again be able to get health insurance again.
Remember that Schizophrenia is primarily a physiological problem, and can be treated with medication. However, therapy can also help, along with meditation, dietary changes, etc.
