| Re: Risperidone
I have been on antipsychotic meds ( including risperadol ) for at least 10 years. In my personal experience, the meds never drastically changed my state of mind. All my symptoms ( voices, thought broadcasting, etc... ) are still there. What the meds do for me, is give me a better sense of reality and help me deal with, and ignore the symptoms. The key for me, was to take the medicine with a realistic expectation, knowing that my symptoms will never fully disappear. That is my experience, but I'm assuming that results vary.
If you haven't noticed any change after 6 weeks, I would recommend seeing your doctor again. I believe you should use a search engine to view some information on other medicine used to treat your illness. That way, you'll have a sense of side effects, and how extreme they are. Even if you want to stay on risperal, I would still contact my doctor. Sometimes, tweaking the dosage, or changing the time you take the meds, can make a significant difference. I would also keep a notebook handy, and try to write any information about what you're going through. Then when you see your doctor, you don't have to worry about forgetting something that may be important for the doctor to know. Good luck
