Re: My psychotic history

Fortunately, I don't suffer much from akasthesia, but I do get terrible anxiety which would be a dream to get rid off.

Re: My psychotic history

I am happy you had a good day.

We can only take one day at a time.

I think the shorter days and winter are bringing on worse depression for me.

I believe it is close to summer in Australia, Koolguy. Maybe that has a bearing possibly?

Regards

Glad you have seen an improvement. I have been identified as suffering from social anxiety disorder which is difficult to treat.

Re: My psychotic history

i used to suffer from a worse form of akathisia. I remember having an eoisode while waiting to catch a train home. my mind was on edge and I was terrified. I felt like people going pass knew who I was. this made me feel unbearably uneasy and agitated.

I would hold my breathe while inside the train. if there was a guy listening to music through ear phone, I would hear it and get extremely agitated.

I know the feeling, Koolguy. The intense fear. Any slight sound would set me off.

Re: My psychotic history

i'm sorry, i am new to this messageboard and this post so i didn't read if you have tried cogentin or diphenhydramine for the akathesia? for me it is sometimes so bad it doesn't do a thing, but sometimes it makes a difference. benzodiazepines help too but they are dangerously addictive.

akathesia is the closest thing to hell i have ever experienced. clozaril has been great for me because although it has side effects that are pretty severe the restlessness isn't so bad. i'm optimistic about my future on this drug. i've been on it for about a year and it's amazing.

i feel for you and i hope things keep improving!

Re: My psychotic history

I've been getting an episode every three to four days.
It gets difficult to even lie down by myself in my room because I feel impending doom.
I get fidgety and it lasts for three hours. This is an improvement over six hours.
Today I practised mindfulness meditation. Hopefully it will raise my morale.

Re: My psychotic history

Akathisia may range in intensity from a mild sense of disquiet or anxiety (which may be easily overlooked) to a total inability to sit still, accompanied by overwhelming anxiety, malaise, and severe dysphoria (manifesting as an almost indescribable sense of terror and doom). The condition is difficult for the patient to describe and is often misdiagnosed. When misdiagnosis occurs in antipsychotic neuroleptic-induced akathisia, more antipsychotic neuroleptics may be prescribed, potentially worsening the symptoms. High-functioning patients have described the feeling as a sense of inner tension and torment or chemical torture.

Re: My psychotic history

i have a question brought up by a guy in sz chatroom. why would my akathisia lasts only 3 hours and comes every 3 to 4 days, instead of having it for days? why would it come in cycles?

It *could* just be anxiety.

Have a great New Year Koolguy.

no i think it's akathisia which is different from anxiety.

i have new rules:
1. i feel good until the day of akathisia
2. before akathisia i feel mental unease
3. if akathisia starts late like 9pm then it only take an hour(until 10pm).
4. otherwise takes 3 hours
5. happens once every four days.
