I've only ever had tubes. They helped me, but did not totally get rid of the attacks of pressure/swelling/ringing. A lot of adults hate the tubes and have poor results, and they were kind of a pain...

PS I have been trying to calm down on the ear clearing using the palate muscles, and it seems to be helping in a general, "feeling more normal" way. I often find myself doing it unconsciously!

I'd try to get those tubes opened up a bit more to get the clicky stuff under control...trial of sudafed, mucinex, ibuprofen, and plenty of water. Lay off dairy if you use it; produces more mucus....

Let me add that my myoclonus has largely gone into remission. I do sometimes get random thumps, just to keep me on my toes. But the voice-activated stuff did calm down considerably, save a few days...

Shower water shouldn't cause ETD because the tympanic membrane (eardrum) prevents water from going into the middle ears and reaching the tubes. The only exception to that would be if you have a tear...
