To be honest, it's a very slow recovery process. As Haydena said, 4-6 months average, and up to a year to regain full strength.

For me, even at the youngish age of 36, it was when my surgeon told me that if I waited to long to do it the arthritis would probably progress to a point where even surgery might not help that much. ...

if you do indeed have basal joint arthritis, then putting off this surgery is just putting off the inevitable. It's a condition that is only going to get worse, and you can only go so far...

I think probably the most useful thing I bought was the waterproof cast cover from a medical supply store. It was so much easier to use than plastic bags and rubber bands and kept everything totally...

The best advice I can give you is to know that even doctors don't know everything. Take for example mine, my doc never mentioned needing to place a pin either, but during my surgery he discovered...
