Coping Skills.. PLEASE READ!
OK, I wanted to start this because I want to share how I got through the hard times after deciding to stop the Self-Injury and how I cope with stress and depression and anxiety in my life now. Hopefully others here who are working on coping skills will tell us how you deal.
Visualizing The Future- I learned a long time ago that everything that we do in the present will effect our future. Visualizing what my future will be like if I go the SI rout of dealing with my problems has been my biggest savior. You have to STOP and breath, closing your eyes helps and think about all that is involved. Think about whether it is that important to have a quick fix over having a secure future. Think about how you are going to feel the next day or 5 years down the road. Believe me, being a Mother covered in scars is an embarrassing and insecure thing.
Meditation- Believe it or not, Meditation can work wonders if you really put yourself into it. Go somewhere private and secure. Sit with your legs crossed, the room silent and eyes closed. Count your breaths, Count the seconds, count anything... Really! It's amazing how just counting can calm you down and clear your mind.
Exercise & Stretching- This one can go hand and hand with meditation. It's all about centering yourself on one thing and focusing on nothing else. It's best to do this in silence and here is why; When you have the TV on or the Radio you hear things that you may relate to and can trigger the same thoughts that had you feeling so low. The silence is very important.
