I have been awake for almost six days now. Things got really bad yesterday and I cut. I got thirteen stitches. I felt like I needed to go inpatient. My insurance wont pay for it because they said I'm not unstable enough. That just makes no sense at all to me. How am I suppose to get any help if no one takes my insurance or if my insurance company says I'm not unstable? I'm totally lost. I don't know what to do.
If you feel that unstable then go to the nearest county hospital and go in through the ER and tell them you need to go inpatient you are not stable. That you cut yourself and had to get stitches and don't feel safe. They can not refuse to take you it is illegal. If they won't, then call your pdoc and have him come and sign you in.
Once you get that taken care of you need to get with your pdoc and get a realistic plan for your sleeping habits done, because what he has you doing now is not realistic, it is not safe, and he needs to fix it. Please let me know how you are doing, and what's going on.
oh my... i am glad you are ok. Here in Florida, they do not care about the money- when i went to the ER last month cause i cut, they baker acted me. Put me into a mental home and gave me no meds, not even the one's i take. They let me out after a day instead of the normal 3. Is there a maybe a state run facility by you? They have to take you-this does not seem right.
I would call around, research online, you may even have to go out of state, I am not sure where you live. Good luck, keep posting and I hope you get some sleep!
I live in GA. when I went to the er for the cut, they suggested I go. But my insurance company said cutting isn't a reason for inpatient. I tried to explain it was a little more than just a cut. I've tried all the inpatient places I have been to but I can't get approval from my insurance.
A county or state hospital cannot turn you down for lack of funds or insurance. If you go in and state that you are a danger to yourself they have to take you, at least for a 72 hr. hold, that is the law.
I contacted my insurance company yet again. They said in order for me to go inpatient right now, I have to get a referral from my doctor saying that I need it. So I'm going to call my doc tomorrow and hope for the best.
I think your doing this backwards.....like I said If you go to an emergency of any hospital actually, but a county or state hospital and state that you feel you are suicidal or a danger to yourself, they have to hold you for at least 72 hrs, no matter what your ins. co. says. If you're goign there saying, "my ins. co. say's this or that" they probably think that if your lucid enough to be calling your ins. co. you don't need their help, which is a bit strange. If you think you need their help just go there and quit worrying about what your ins. co. says.
Sorry for all the drama and crap I said. That's just the way I'm used to going about things. I had a huge bill from a stay one time and it made a mess of things. Anyway... I got a few hours sleep. I feel a little bit better. Still not really in the right state of mind but I will just see where it takes me for now.
Hey "drama and crap" is the mainstay of our lives. if you're sure your okay....
I'm glad you got some sleep, that can make a world of difference, I know. Do a favor and check back in later and let us know your okay, 'kay? *s* I don't want to get too many more gray hairs worrying about you.
Take care hon,
kat

I'm okay. Well not really... but I'm still here. Haha. Been trying to sleep since about nine last night. But no luck of course. I had to cancel my pysch appoitment because I don't have the the money. So I get to stay like this a little while longer. but I'm trying to look on the bright side...
Chelsea hon, you really needed to go to that psych appt. Your pdoc won't work with you on paymnet? Have you thought of trying one of the public clinincs? You can't go on like this girl.....this no sleep for weeks at a time is going to do you in. Doesn't your ins. cover your psych appt.s?
The closest place that i can find that my insurance will pay is like two hours away and I just can't go that far. No, they wont work with me on payment. I tried before canceling the appointment. I'm looking for someone to see that is cheaper.
Call your county DSS office and find out about free or low fee treatment. One of my best docs, before I could afford private care was through a place called freedom house that was nofee/low fee. Some of these places have really good careing docs.
There is only one place around here like that. I went there before I moved. And now thay I'm back, I refuse to go there again. Its horrible there. I just.. can't. I wont. And the only internet I have is on my phone. So its difficult to look up stuff like doctors and stuff. I can't even get a pcp. The only thing my insurance does at this point is pay for meds.
