Post Take L-Arginine with Viagra?

I am taking L-arginine as a daily supplement. Can I still take Viagra?

What I understand is that L-arginine promotes nitric oxide production and Viagra prohibits nitric oxide destruction. I think Pfizer severely warns against combining Viagra with drugs that contain nitrates (see Pfizer's Viagra web site). So I would not combine L-arginine and Viagra.

Best is to consult your doctor or pharmacist.

waterfall,

I wouldn't worry too much about the combination. If any, the effects of the arginine are quite modest and it IS available in all protein foods in pretty high doses.

Quote:
Arginine appears to offer some modest benefit for sexual dysfunction in men. A double-blind, placebo controlled trial of 50 men with erectile dysfunction tested arginine at a dose of 5,000 mg per day for six weeks. Only about a third of the participants who received arginine showed improvement, but that improvement was greater than the 10% improvement seen in the placebo group. Moreover, erectile dysfunction is caused by a variety of factors. L-arginine may be effective only in those men whose erectile dysfunction is due to low levels of nitric oxide. Studies in animals provide some evidence for effectiveness as well.
Sometimes we need all the help we can get.
