Sometimes I have tried getting oral sex which results in a "soft erection" and its just too soft for intercourse. When I can get what I would call a 85% erection it goes away within seconds. I can literally watch it go down with each pulsating movement. I think i was 17 when I saw the urologist for the first time. I was prescribed viagra with no effect, levitra with no effect, i took and injection finally and obtained a full erection however, after about 30 mins it got really painful, i look back and laugh at it now but its not funny. I had to rush back to the doctor because it got so painful luckily it went away once i reached the doctors office. Ever since then I've almost given up. Why did my erection hurt so bad? Is there a cause of painful erections? Perhaps my body refuses to get an erection because it knows its about to be painful? Damn this is a messed up problem. I would rather be missing a finger. Seriously.
Apologize if this is disjointed or confusing -- final exams finished this week and I've been on a relentless drinking binge since!

My understanding of injections is not great -- but from what I have read there seem to be two different basic chemicals. One, which is probably what you tried (because it is apparently more temperature stable, so it is usually what doctors use), i think is a single drug called Prostaglandin E1 or G1 or something. There is an alternative -- something called Trimix, which is a combination of several drugs, and it is reported by many to have far less pain involved. It is what I use. It is the same basic system, but a different combination of drugs. You should revisit your doc and request Trimix, he should know what you're talking about -- from what I've read, people that have suffered pain from the other often have good results with Trimix.

Also, I'm with Pete on this one -- it's a small problem. Don't let it get you down!

Re: 22 Venous Leakage

Hey Ethan -- I joined these boards SPECIFICALLY TO RESPOND to your posts... particularly the one you wrote about injection therapy only lasting, on average, about 10 years or so.

Do you mind my asking you where you read/heard this figure? I only ask because I too am taking injections -- Caverject -- and have been for over six years now.

Trouble is, they aren't working as well as they used to and seem to require obscenely high does now in order for me to have intercourse (a rarer and rarer thing these days)

I'm 44, by the way -- much older than you -- have been married for six years (to a wonderful woman who knows nothing about my problem, or the injections!) and am worried that my condition will eventually spell the end of my marriage.

I suspect that one reason the injections aren't working too well is that I may have acquired a venous leakage. I'm told a penile ring might help to alleviate this problem.

Anyone have any insight on this?

Re: 22 Venous Leakage

Hi Ethan and others,

I am looking for advice from young persons living with venous leakage. Someone under the age of 30 and very close to me has been living with it for nearly 10 years and is currently going through a really deep depression with suicidal tendencies because of it. It has been a year now that we have not been able to get through to him at all.

Any advice on how to talk to him ? Any support group you'd recommend? He is very much locked up in his own world of seeing everything in black and refusing to look at life through another lense than that of despair, void, decay of his own body, etc.

Thanks for your help.

Re: 22 Venous Leakage

Do you have any additional information about how severe his ED is?

Can he still get erections with Viagra, Caverject or Trimix? What does his doctor say about this?
Did he get a cavernosogram done?

Venous leakage can come in very different forms. Some men cannot have any form of erection, while others can obtain a (weak) erection but cannot maintain it or can maintain it but with great difficulty and constant stimulation. Depending on the severity of the leak, he has to seak a suitable treatment. Currently there are no succesfull 'standard solutions' for venous leakage. But there are things that can help 'alleviate' the problem, like Viagra, Caverject or Trimix, with or without addition of a ring that keeps things in place. There is also a surgery available for venous leakage, they tie off the veins that are 'responsible' for the leakage. But this surgery is virtually abandonned by most doctors because of the low success rates. Current opinions are that in most cases it's not a leaking vein that is responsible but rather a 'defect' in the penile tissues themselves. Although there is a doctor in Taiwan who claims to have a 90% success rate with this operation. I cannot post the link on his website here, because of the advertising policy of the site that i want to respect.

If these things don't work, a prothesis may be a last option.

It could well be that his mental condition makes the problem even worse. If your mind cannot relax, the smooth muscle inside the penis also cannot relax and this brings along more 'leakage'.

I have quite severe ED myself, but everyday i tell myself there are people in a lot worse situation. People who are paralysed for instance or who have got cancer and dying in agony. Comparing to those things, ED is relatively 'mild' problem. But i know the feeling myself, it can be very devastating at moments.

I was severely depressed about this, sat in psychiatry for one year to find out it has no use to keep being depressed. It does not 'solve' anything. He has to realize this first, otherwhise he cannot go on with his life.

I understand what your friend is probably going through. Almost 10 years impotent is terrible for any man. I myself very stupidly tried penis enlargement exercises around nearly 6 years ago now. I only did these penis exercises a few times, I was young (21 years old) niave, stupid and very insecure about my penis size. The exercises resulted in me being impotent my penis has slowly deterorated since. I am now at the point where I can barely hold a good erection on my own and I can't achieve a true full erection either because the glands don't expand and remain soft when I am aroused. My ED is moderate bordering on severe. The fact my erection decreases so rapidly when I get aroused sugguests probably quite a bad venous leak yet doctors I have seen say there is nothing wrong with me.

I used to get depressed over this and felt life wasn't worth living for a long time but I did get over it,obviously being impotent still sucks but I have got used to it, the reality is my penis is likely permamantly damaged and sadly there probably isn't anything I can do or any doctor could do to reserve the damage I caused it.

Despite being impotent I don't feel depressed like before I still try and enjoy life and I do, Pete29 is right having ED isn't as bad compared to those paralized forever, those with incurable cancer, those serverely disabled or handicaped etc. Even when my penis worked perfectly I never really had girlfriends or dated (I am a virgin) and I have effectively been single most of my life. I don't mind being alone besides I can't give the most basic thing women want like I once could. I am not being negative here either or bitter I respect women but when you have ED it's more of a reason not to seek out dates and such because let's face it the main reason we get together is ultimately to have sex or procreate both of which I am not as capable of doing.

Anyway I hope your friend realizes he is not alone and that he can get over the depression (I know it's hard though) and things can get better, a man can live a happy life without having sex but I might say this because I have never had sex but it's true you can't really miss something you never have.

Good luck
