The patch is a sticky patch that you stick on your upper arm, butt, or stomach and it releases hormones into your body that prevent you from becoming pregnant, just like the birth control pill. You wear one patch per week, so every sunday (or whatever) you take off the old patch and put on a new one. you do that for three weeks, and on the fourth week you wear no patch, and you get your period. The patch has the same failure rate as the pill does, it's about 99% effective, so there is a small chance of pregnancy. If you do get pregnancy your options are the same as if you had become pregnant not on the patch.
