Sex a day before her period.

I just want to make sure.

If a girl is about to have her period in two days, is it correct that she cannot get pregnant if the male did not use a condom?

Thanks

Re: Sex a day before her period.

Actually no you are wrong. A girl can get pregnatn before, during,or right after her period. There is NO SAFE TIME for unprotected sex. Granted the chances are lower but they are still there.
USE A CONDOM NO MATTER WHAT unless of course you are looking to be a father.
The reason a girl could get pregnant is sperm can live between 3 to 7 days and in some rare cases recent studies have found that sperm can live ten days. So if by chance she ovulates during her period there will be sperm waiting for the egg. So pregnancy can occur.
Just use a condom to protect yourself.

AMEN! AND you can also get STD'd without a condom, dont forget that! The only 100% birth control is abstinence. <IMG SRC="http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/wink.gif">

Re: Sex a day before her period.

Actually you are safe having sex before her period. It has been clearly shown that to get pregnant a girl must be within 48 hours of ovulation and ovulation always takes place well after the her period begins. You are always safe one week before her next period. Of course STDs are a consideration, so use a condom.

Re: Sex a day before her period.

Orion how can you say that...there is no safe time for unprotected sex. Periods and ovulation are very unstable. If this girl has a long period with a short cycle she can very easily ovulate during her period and hence pregnancy can occur. Also youhave to consider sperm can live up to 7 days inside a girl.
Also there are some women who ovulate more than once during thier cycles and hence dont know when they can have sex without riskof pregnancy.
That is highly irresponsible to say that he has a week in whihc he is safe. Have you not read any of the posts on the pregnancy board?? There are girls ont here who are pregnant just from precum and it was the last day of her period.
THERE IS ALWAYAS A CHANCE OF PREGNANCY WITH UNPROTECTED SEX.

I agree with whitewolf. That was pretty irresponsible to say that they would be safe. Maybe the chances are reduced, but safe? NO!

Well, there are a lot of myths surrounding pregnancy, lets try to clear one up.

First the facts:
......................
from Engl J Med 1995 Dec 7;333(23):1517
Conception occurred only when intercourse took place during a six-day period that ended on the estimated day of ovulation ... only 6 percent of the pregnancies could be attributed to sperm that were three or more days old.
......................

So sperm more than 48 hours old only account for 6 percent of pregnacies and NO pregnancies occured with 6 day old sperm. The probability of getting pregnant with 5 day old sperm is less than 1% and that's darn small, not safe, but small.

Since a woman can't ovulate before she has her period then a man who has unprotected sex 6 days before her period began is as safe as you can be because research shows that 6 day old sperm can't possibly work.

A woman has her period, and after it stops, the danger time for ovulation begins. Even a short period of 2 days would result in ovulation on day 4 at best (highly unlikely). So a guy who had sex two days before her period began would also be safe because (2 days before + 2 day period + 2 days before ovulation = 6 days = SAFE). Normally a period would last 3-4 days and ovulation would take place 8-10 days after the period began. If his girl friend has a normal period of 28 days, then they are also completely safe.

So I stand by my answer that sex 2 days before her period began makes them safe. I didn't say it was smart, just safe from pregnancy. It's simply a fact!

</B><HR></BLOCKQUOTE>

Yes sperm can live up to 10 days in a girl but it takes more than just a few sperm to cause pregnancy. It is not true that ONE is enough. In fact, several studies show that 6 day old sperm can't cause pregnancy and the probability of five day old sperm working is less than 1%.

<BLOCKQUOTE><font size="1" face="Verdana, Arial">quote:</font><HR>Originally posted by whitewolf95:

It might be possible to ovulate more than once per cycle but for sure you can't ovulate before your period is well underway (at least 99.99% of women can't). And since he had sex a few days before her period even began he is well outside the 5 day window of possible pregnancy.

<BLOCKQUOTE><font size="1" face="Verdana, Arial">quote:</font><HR>Originally posted by whitewolf95:

Sex on the last day of your period is very dangerous because once your period stops, the danger for ovulation is great and probably will occur within 5 days. But this guy was 2 days before her period began not when it was finished. So he had time to be safe.

<BLOCKQUOTE><font size="1" face="Verdana, Arial">quote:</font><HR>Originally posted by whitewolf95:

This statement is simply untrue. Research shows that a woman can only get pregnant within 5 days before the date of ovulation. That leaves 20 or more days of safe sex time. So there is NOT "always a chance", in fact the chance is zero after ovulation and 6 days before ovulation.

Of course if a woman has irregular periods, spotting and other problems then the safe times would be harder to spot. But for most ovulating women, its pretty easy to tell when the safe time is.

Re: Sex a day before her period.

I've seen many of your other posts and know that you're not pulling things out of your a$$. Everything you are saying and citing is wonderful and true but these are complicated things that have too many chances of going wrong. What if she has a very short period or little to no flow? To give such advise on a board where probably a lot of young teens visit and seek advise is foolhearty. You'll get some teens thinking they are safe (and for the most part they just well may be) and they one of those little quirks somes up and the girls pregnant. It's just not worth it.

Re: Sex a day before her period.

I agree with you "sdp", no protection can be dangerous to your health and any miscalculation could lead to pregnancy. The equation is simple: protection = safer sex. But, fudging the truth by saying you're never safe from pregnancy will simply turn kids off. They know that isn't true and they will wonder what else we are making up. To me, the truth is the only way. We have to assume they are smart enough listen. Then kids can decide for themselves. After all, in the end, its all up to them. We can only hope they do the right thing (as we understand it today).
