I cried with releif when I read the postings on this site - I felt normal again.

I had a microdisectomy 6 months ago and whilst the improvement in my daily life is encouraging, sex is a nightmare. Penetration causes a burning numbness to shoot down my left leg, and the terror of a recurring injury to my back pretty much kills any enjoyment for me. As a result, I just want my partner to finish quickly. My partner on the otherhand needs to thrust hard and for a long time to climax. He prefers the missionary position for this reason. He is tender and thoughtful by nature and hates the thought that he is hurting me, so this messes with his head and he can't climax. We have tried different positions but nothing is working for both of us. The pain and dissapointment in his eyes is killing me. The posts I have read on back surgery have helped me understand that my symptoms are normal, perhaps someone out there has overcome this problem as well and has some tips. I hope so...I love my partner, and I am very worried I may lose him.

I read about people who have had your kind of surgery, they say that it takes a very long time for the nerve to heal in those kinds of surgeries. Perhaps time will help ease the pain. I really don't know much about it.

Have you talked to your doctor? Perhaps the doctor could give you a timeline for how long your healing may take. By getting this information, it might make the wait for normal relations more tolerable for your husband.

You might also locate a book that illustrates various techniques for those who can't have regular intercourse. That could be less painful, while you are healing.

Good luck.
