First what kind of discharge?? The reason I ask is women actually have a natural discharge that helps keep us clean and even is a sign of impending fertility and actual fertile time. Some women will have more than others and so on since we are all different.
As long as there isnt a bad smell,itching,burning,pain,strange color,or lumpy discharge chances are it is her normal cervical mucus. That is the proper name for the normal stuff.
Also using a tampon wouldnt be a good idea. They are only meant for when one is on their period. And if by chance it is an infection then it could make things worse by trapping it inside her.
Have her read the book Taking Charge Of Your Fertility by Toni Weschler. It has some great on info on what is normal discharge and even has pictures so one can understand more. She can get it at her local library or bookstore.
If she is still worried that it is an infection have her go to a totally different doctor to get a second opinion.
