Exclamation Which Spermicide is the best?

Hello! this is my first post
My boyfriend has been away for 4 months with his family overseas, but this thursday he will finally be home! I started taking Ortho Tri BC pills in june, and have been taking them at the same time and all that so we can enjoy his night back without a condom ^_^as a treat since he enjoys it. Anyway, I want to use something else just to make us both feel a little better about it, so I thought spermicide would be the best option.
What is the best spermicide for multiple uses? Im not super sensitive to spermicide, but something really strong might not feel so hot for me after the 10th time ~_~
Any other suggestions, aside from pulling out and condoms that would make it just a bit safer?

Thanks guys! Love this board <3

Well you can go explore what is offered out there. Personally I use extra stength Gynol II spermicidal gel.
I buy mine online, since it's about $5 cheaper for the same amount, and I also got free shipping and another discount.

Personally we both love the product.
I know there are also spermicide applicators you can buy in the pharmacy. You need to wait 15 minutes after insertion, before intercourse to be sure it's effective. I've never used them, so I don't know how well they work etc.

It's always a smart idea to have a 2nd form of BC, in case something happened. I'd try the spermicidal gel, or whatever else you come across and think would be better.

Have you used it for multiple uses, or can you be fairly safe with the same dose in for a little while?
I would just hate to have to run to the bathroom and do that before every round (it IS his first night back)

Yes, it's a good policy to re-apply.

Better safe than sorry -- lots of fluid leaks a lot of places during sex. Non-9 could be one of those fluids.

First you might want to find out if you've got a sensitivity to nonoxynol-9, the approved spermicide. It's technically a detergent, and so some people have had reactions to it, mostly just skin irritation, but this could escalate to things like hives, etc.

Basically, if you've ever used it before, chances are you'll figure out whether you're allergic or not.

Another thing you're going to want to look into -- since you're so worried about the 10th round -- is one that has some kind of lubricating medium, since non-9 has a tendency to dry things out a bit and thereby increase irritation. If you have to double-up (like a spermicidal strip and a proper personal lubricant, like Muko,) then so-be-it.

But let me say that if you're going to be having that many rounds at once, I'm not sure a spermicidal preparation would be the best birth-control option for you.

THe Gynol II comes in a tube, with an applicator. It deosn't look that big, but you can get a decent amount of applications out of it.

I definately agree that it might not be the best option if you're going to go so many rounds, or hope to anyway.

If you are taking your birth control correctly, which it sounds like you are, you don't NEED to use a spermicide. But i understand your fears and why you would want to. Birth control is completly safe enough to be used as your only form of protection, so long as you and your boy are STD free. I use it as my only form, and i have never been pregnant. Hope you have a good time while he's back

Talking

thanks guys ,
Today I went out and bought a 3 pack of VCF (vaginal contraceptive film) those thin squares of spermicide that last for around 3 hours. It seemed like the best choice, and it says its not messy....so I grabed it.
It does have nonoxynol-9 in it so hopefully It wont give me hives or anything.

Had anyone used this before? Is it hard to apply? O_O

also, I picked up some astroglide to help with the dryness (from that and the pills) since it seemed to be well-liked in these boards.
thanks~

While you may feel secure with just the BCP, there have been quite a few cases where women still get pregnnat while on the pill, even if taken correctly. Nothing is 100%. It's always safest to use 2 forms of BC.
