Viral infection? just got back from the doctors.. - Sexual Health - General Message Board

just got back from the doctors, and i dont really know about his diagnosis...need some input please, just skip to the last paragraph if you dont need to know all my symptoms.

Ive had a problem for 2 months now
Ive had a red rash on my penis thats burning occassionally and when i urinate.
I have been tested for clamydia gonorea hiv hepatitis, bladder infection and tract infection, its all been clear. I have been on antibiotics for 10 days.I was diagnosed with a fungal infection, and was given cream. it hasnt really helped, i bought clotrimazole and that seems to have made the rash lighter, that and exposing the penis to fresh air.

Point is, i just went and saw another doctor (who seems better then the other one) and he just had a look and listend to me, talked to me for 20 minutes and reassured me that i do not need to worry at all, that lots of men get these kinds of things, that they are just skin irritations. He said they can take a while to go away, and that if they are viral, then then medication wont really help at all.
He just told me it will go away with time and that theres nothing you can really do about it.
He said he had seen lots of cases (the doctor is an older man).
Can i rest assured that this is what it is?
What do you guys think about the doctors diagnosis??

oh and btw he said that fungal infections are very rare in men and he doubted that that was what i have.
He was explaining why in all his medical terms didnt really get iut but he did seem to know what he is talking about.

In general, older doctors are much better than younger ones in these types of cases, at least, as they have seen and experience so much more. A doc that takes 20 minutes, too, is almost unheard of today. I might disagree a bit that fungal infections are rare in men - jock itch, which can affect the penis, is pretty common. Maybe you meant to say yeast infections.....

I still think Oxistat is one of the best anti-fungals, and I highly recommend it, but you need a prescription. It costs more than clotrimazole, but I have seen Oxistate wipe out fungus that clotrimazole barely could touch. Of course, your milage may differ.

The doc seems wise and worth listening to.

Sounds like you've found a good doctor.

There's another comment I'd like to make. After I responded to your other posts, I read somewhere else on the internet about some guys complaining of a problem with their penis that sounded a bit like yours. In a couple of cases, a common comment was that they had had blow jobs from partners who were on asthma medication. What about you?
