I was just wondering because i didnt get it until grade 11 and it wasnt even a mandatory class. there are lots of kids who are ignorant about sex and pregnancy here.

correction to the above......I just realized that you said it wasn't mandatory when you took it. It may have been at my school, but I didn't take it - I don't remember it. I probably wouldn't have taken it anyway - too busy with other non-mandatory things!
When I was in grade 4 or 5 the girls were separated from the boys for a special class on our bodies. We learned about where babies come from, menstuation, etc., etc. it seems pretty funny in hindsight, but someone had to tell us, I guess...
And that's about it. I remember in high school if you took phys ed., you got some more info about sex ed in that class, but I never took gym, so I guess I missed it.
I graduated in 97 and had sex ed in either 9th or 10th grade (I can't remember which now) and it was mandatory. We had something called a 'core' in our school where you went to your main set of classes with the same group of people so we all had to take sex ed for a semester together.
Mine was in 5th grade. They also separated the boys from the girls and had a female teacher teach us and a male teacher talk to the boys! I think that was probably a perfect time to be educated about everything!
The boys were separated from the girls. Girls got educated on periods. I assume boys got educated on erections and wet dreams and then we all came out of the classroom giggling. I believe it was in 7th grade and we never received a grade for it. It was a 1 time deal. I learned a lot of things myself from reading magazines and my parents were always open to questions although I was usually too embarrassed to ask them. Chlamydia was not a known problem when I was a teen there was more discussion about syphyllis and gonnorhea and of course the crabs.
In 6th grade the boys and girls were seperated and we got some info about menstruation and pregnancy, nothing major. Then in 8th grade, we got the video about condoms, ect. And a few things about STD's. Personally, I (very mature for an 8th grader, lol) could have probably taught the class better. The class was mandatory unless your parents insisted that you not take it.
Sex ed classes at my school were horrible, and were more of a scare tactic than information source.

mine was in 6th & 7th. i think that sex ed in school is a joke .i did not get nothing out of it.i grad highschool in 02 so you can do the math. when i had sex ed your parent haed to sing a note it was ok for you to be in there
I remember having it in 5th and 6th grade (boys separated from girls) they explained how our bodies are changing and that its normal. I really didnt learn anything, everything I already knew by then
I graduated in 97 and I remember in 6th grade, the girls being separated from the boys and learning about menstruation.
In 11th grade, we had an excellent sex ed unit as part of our (required) health class, very informative and we even had a rep from the county health department give us contact information and explain the services they provided. The part of the unit on birth and babies even covered the cost of having/raising a child. We learned about STDs and watched what is referred to the "infamous STD slide show"--gross, but at least we now know what the visible symptoms look like.
Unfortunately, 11th grade was too late for a lot of people.
Ours was in 6th grade. Both 6th grade classes were combined and they showed explicit how to movies about sex and everything in a mixed sex classroom with both males and females together ! http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/redface.gif I will NEVER forget THAT !
ok lets see i've had that class 4 times same thing each time.#1 problem they never did talk about the STDs just pregnancy and how the female and male bodies react during sex. which was pretty much embarrassing considering there was about 15 girls and 30 boys in the same class.
I took sex ed my freshman year of high school and it was mandatory. Something I have a question about....you said they did MANDATORY chlamyhdia testing at your school? I have never heard of that. I would think that would not be legal. What if some of the kids are not sexually active, yet they still have to get tested?!?!? That seems very sketchy to me! If I was a parent of a child at that school I would have been VERY upset about that!
