Red face Testosterone Levels Normal, Please Help Me Out. Nowhere to turn

Hello,

I have a bunch of problems in my life, and now have no idea where to turn. I have suffered from a low libido for some time now. I am 24 years old, and 150 pounds. Recently I have suffered from all the symptoms of low testosterone. I have no sex drive, changes in genital size, reduction of facial hair, and my brian does not seem right recently as I have been very forgetfull.
I had my testosterone levels checked and the Dr. told me they were normal They are 500 for the regular testosterone and 14.3 for the FREE testosterone. I suspect the free level is a bit low for someone of my age.
I have no history of drug use, but I was constantly on Cortisone injections and prendisone when I was younger. Not sure if the steroids could cause my problems. I have been free of those medicines for years, but I am currently taking Flovent Inhaler for asthma which is an inhaled steroid. I have always been a very small framed male with extremely small build. I have never had "muscles". I was taking zoloft for depression until about a year ago. I thought the problems I have been having were due to the medicine, but being off them for a year I feel my sex drive should have come back.
My doctor says there is no problems, but I know there is something wrong. I don't know which type of doctor to follow up with as I have only been seeing my general dr. Besides the sex drive issue, I have a TERRIBLE memory. This is something that I didn't notice until the past couple years or so.
If you have any suggestions I would really appreciate it. I don't know where to go from here and everyone on this board is so helpfull!! Thank you in advance, and I look forward to hearing from you.

-Jon

Re: Testosterone Levels Normal, Please Help Me Out. Nowhere to turn

Your Total T looks reasonable but for your age is probably a little below average. I would expect to see 600's but youre close enough that it should not create all these problems. What are the units on your Free T? Usually its expressed in pg/mL and 14.3 would be very low. Is it in ng/dL? You should have 100 - 250 pg/mL with an ideal level of around 160. I'm betting if we convert yours to pg/mL it will be 143 which would be very good.

There are other hormones that can cause the problems too. You should have Estradiol, DHT, TSH, and prolactin checked. All these can cause problems if off. The cortisone use bothers me but I'm not enough of an expert to know if its related or not.

the number that my doctor gave me for the free testosterone is 14.3 . he said the "normal" free testosterone levels were between 9.3 and 26.5. can exercise or specific foods raise your testosterone?

Re: Testosterone Levels Normal, Please Help Me Out. Nowhere to turn

It may be a different type of Free T test, someone on another board mentioned this recently. You seem to be closer to the low end of normal there too.

You should avoid estrogen containing foods like anything with lots of soy in it. If you have a lot of body fat that can also increase estrogen too so exercising to lower body fat would help. Estrogen acts like testosterone in the receptors in the hypothalmus and can trick it into thinking you have enough Testosterone so it does not send as much LH. LH is the hormone that stimulates youre testicles to make more testosterone.

Are you taking any other drugs? Anti depressants can cause this too. Otherwise I would check the other hormones I suggested above and maybe add cortisol to the list. Would your doctor go along? I had one that wouldnt so I said, well then can you just run the test for me and I'll take the results to an endocrinologist? He agreed so at least I got them run. Cortisol must be done early in the day while fasting too by the way.
The best doctor for this type of hormonal problem would be an anti aging doctor. But you dont really know it is a hormonal problem yet either.

I am not currently taking and anti depressants although I was on them for a long period of time. I have been off them for over a year now. Not sure what type of free T test it was though

Get your estradiol checked. It may be in the high end of the "normal" range.

Many anti-depres med will cause that problem. Many people, even after many months do not recover the sex drive. Research "SSRI sex drive"
