What is play or recreational (not sure that recreational is the right adjective really) urethral sounding? I've read a bit about it lately and thought it sounds like something that MIGHT be worth a try but wanted to check to see if there's any experience out there first. Seen a couple of educational videos but still a little nervous to try it.

Initially I think most men cringe at the thought of inserting something into the urethra.
The first article I read was about the pleasure aspect of stretching the male urethra. I even saw some photos of this procedure being done. The expereince at first can be quite pleasurable, but when the urethra becomes comfortably stretched, the pleasure aspect can be diminished. I even saw how some men (and women) take this kind of play to the extreme. You wouldn't believe..

There's medical urethral sounding and then there's, as it's called, urethral play. The medical version is where is a slim, smooth stainless steel rod, varying in size, is inserted into the urethra to stretch and open it up. Some men (and women) have urethral stricture and the procedure is necessary.
Recently it seems, urethral play has been practiced to acheive sexual stimulation. The actual procedure is the same, just a different purpose.

Since my post (and your reply) I actually found some very useful info in [deleted]. I'm pretty open to tyring new things that "stretch" my limits so I think I'll try it. Obviously taking care to be safe and clean about it!

As stated be double sure your sounds are completely sterile. Clean with alcohol after each use and clean before using again. Don't substitue weird objects for a proper urethral sound. If you go through with the stretching process you'll be amazed at how easily and harmlessly the urethra can be stretched for pleasure. There's even a vibrating "bullet" made for insertion. It's quite large for the urethra and is intended as the last step of sounding.
