Can a porn/masturbation addiction lead to E.D.? I'm only 23.

Hello all, first post here. Needed someplace to ask this.

Anyways, I'm currently 23, and I've never been able to have sex without the use of Viagra. Even with Viagra, it oftentimes requires a blowjob or something before I get hard. There are a couple issues in my life that I think might lead to this, so I thought I'd ask the board's opinion.

1.) Porn/masturbating addiction

I've been obsessed with pornography and masturbation since the age of 12. I thought about it constantly, and masturbated numerous times a day. Currently, I masturbate one to three times a day.

I'm sure this rate of masturbation isn't that odd, but I think my usage of pornography is. Ever since I got a computer in my room in high school, I've spent a downright embarrassing amount of time looking at porn. Some times, it's just a brief view of a porn movie and an ejaculation, but other times, it's a 6-8 (or more) hour session involving me masturbating on cam for women.

I've talked to a psychologist about the porn, but haven't mentioned the cam stuff to anyone but message boards. I'll seriously browse chat rooms for countless hours, looking for a woman to talk to me on mic while she watches me masturbate. At this point, I do this maybe 2-4 times a week. Also, during the process of finding a woman, I'm not just sitting there. I'm generally stroking and maintaining an erection for hours on end.

This makes me think the E.D. is not physical, but psychological. I can be in bed with a naked attractive woman, and not feel a tinge of activity down there, but when I sit down at the computer screen and log in, I feel myself getting excited.

2.) Drinking

I've had sex with 11 women, and every single time has been while I was pretty damn intoxicated. I don't really "date" or do any of that stuff, so my sexual history is a product of meeting women at bars and sleeping with them.

I'm really tired of having to pay for Viagra and worry about taking it an hour or two before I might get laid. I dated a girl a few months back and hated telling her to call me an hour in advance if she planned on coming over. I want to be able to have spontaneous, normal sex with women.

What advice do you have for me? I'm sure the drinking is part of the issue, but do you think the porn/masturbating is a large part of the problem? Would an extended period without porn kick-start my excitement with real women?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Can a porn/masturbation addiction lead to E.D.? I'm only 23.

You have trained your body to like porn and commitment free sex. We both know you need to knock off the internet stuff and start looking for a lady you can connect with on more than a sexual level. Six hours a day of looking for sex means you need something else in your life to get you out of the house and doing something worthwhile. You are really wasting your 23 year old life away dude. There is nothing wrong with masturbation in the meantime, just not with porn, because unfortunately porn is pretty powerful stuff and you like it way too much. I would try to limit it to two 15 minutes quickies to satisfy the urge but avoid the net.

Are you saying that you take viagra when you masturbate, or just when you are with someone real? If its both, I'd say better knock off the viagra and give it all a break for a few weeks and see if the natural will come back.

I presume you are drinking a lot because you have some pain to hide. You have to deal with the pain and obviously you need to cut that back or off too because it's just a big waste of time as well.

I only take the Viagra before sex. It's not an issue with masturbation at all.

And as for the drinking, it's purely social. I've been drunk hundreds and hundreds of times, but NEVER alone. I never feel a need to drink, it's always been when my friends are going out and I join them. Keep in mind, I'm 23, there's a lot of social drinking going on at this age. Then again, I recently graduated college and moved out of the college town so it might be taken down quite a bit.

Yes and yes.

If you try to stop masturbating and try to stop watching porn, you will likely find you go through withdrawal... you will fell terrible. Your mind will come up with a million very rational reasons why you should engage in both.

If you want to beat the porn/masturbation addiction, you will have to go through withdrawal, however.

If you can go a month without any alcohol, and without any masturbation and pornography, you will be on the way to a normal, enjoyable sex life. Once your body and mind get back into balance, I suspect you will be able to engage in sexual intercourse without alcohol and without viagra, and you will be able to enjoy occasional sessions of masturbation if you want (but without pornography).

As you are aware of your addiction, you know that you can NEVER look at pornography--once you start, it will be a speedy downward slide. If you can't beat the addiction on your own, seek out a support group or counseling or both.

You are very lucky to be detecting this about yourself at age 23, and not trying to combat this problem in your 40s or 50s after suffering through divorce, custody battles, and possible embarrassing court appearances as a result of the destructive effects of a sex addiction.

Good luck. Find a close friend or two with whom you can talk about all of this without hiding anything. This needs to be out in the open, in the sunshine, so you can start to take charge of your life.

Scotty:

How: "experienced" are you when it comes to sex?

Sometimes I get nervous with a new girl and have problems getting it up. I don't see the need for viagra because it's a mental block.

It seems to me you have the same, considering you have no problems getting it up for manual stimulation.
