Is my problem just the beginning stages of ED?

I am almost 63 and my wife noticed about a year ago that I was not getting as hard as I always had in the past. It has gotten somewhat worse in the past year and now I am only able to finish about 3/4 of the time. I get good night time and morning errections, but the night time ones (like 4 am) are the best. By the time my wife is awake (6:30) they are not as good. Snuggling and passionate kissing will get me up, but after I finish giving her oral sex we have to work for a while to get me up again. Once in, I am normally OK, although I sometimes loose it when changing positions or if it takes too long (over 20 minutes).

I discussed it with my primary doctor 3 months ago and he said that he would just give me one of the ED drugs to see if they worked before sending me to a urologist. I don't think that my desire has waned much and my wife says that it d*****itely has not. We still like to have sex every day, but I now need a days rest to perform reasonably well. Even then, it is not as enjoyable to her many times because I loose some hardness during sex. She is great and has never complained and she says that she is happy with the way it is, but has some interest in me trying one of the ED drugs.

My question to you guys who have gone through this is do you agree with my doc that I should just try one or more of the ED drugs first, without any tests at this time. I have HBP, but it has been under control with ACEIs for 20 years. It averages about 122/78, with a range of 110/68 to 140/90 on rare occasions. My cholesterol runs from 190 to 220 and I tried a statin about 8 years ago and had terrible muscle and joint pains. My cholesterol used to be as high as 280 when in my late 20s before I changed my diet to get it down to 220 to 240. I now take fish oil and niacin to keep it lower. Before I got on the ACEIs, I was on a diuretic for 20 years.

My next regular appt with my doc is my annual physical in 3 months, so I will probably wait until then to get samples or a script. I think that I would like to try Viagra and Cialis first. Since we like sex every day, I would guess that Cialis would be the best for us, with an occasional Viagra for special occasions. If it all of a sudden gets worse, I will probably call for an appt before my physical. Anyway, any thoughts from you experienced guys would be much appreciated. I have been reading all of the past threads on ED and hormones on the various boards for the past few weeks.

I'm sorry, I just discovered that I posted this on the wrong board. Hopefully the moderator will move it.

My two cents ... if your doctor OKs it, go ahead and try Viagra. It will likely do the trick, and there's no shame in using it.

At 63, you're already doing better than a lot of guys, so if a little pill gets you back to where you want to be, go ahead and take advantage of it!

Good luck.

OK, my wife is still laughing.

Why do you guys recommend Viagra first? Does Cialis tend to have more of the side effects or have them worse than Viagra? Viagra has 1/2 the co-pay amount on my insurance as Cialis, but it is only good for a few hours, whereas some of the posters on these boards say that Cialis lasts as long as 3 days. In any case, my insurance only covers 4 of either in one month, so any more would be out of pocket. I would get the highest dose and split them.

Thanks for any info.
