Of course damage can be done to the urethra if the procedure isn't done properly. Many men sound, as it's called, but of course the objects must be professional ones, smooth, sterile and well lubed with sterile lube. Some men enjoy having their urethra stretched, which from what I've heard is the reason for sounding. You start with a small metal rod and graduate slowly to larger rods.
