I've just noticed recently when my penis is erect, should the head be hard too? mine gets bigger as the rest of the penis does but never seems harder. The shaft gets stiff but the head feels about the same softness but increased in size.

Is this normal?

And if it is, why is this so? I would have thought a hard penis head would have aided penetration rather than hindered it.
