My libido is missing! at 20! Help, guys!!

My sex drive is missing! Completely! The "equipment works" but I get absolutely NO sensations or feelings form any stimulation.

Sometimes, however, it comes back - but only in waves.

For example, 4 days with it (extremely strong).. 2-3 weeks without it (complete impotence).. 4 days with it (extremely strong).. 2-3 weeks without it (complete impotence).. ad. nauseum. (I've been keeping logs!)

My brain can obviously not consistiently produce the chemicals used sexual pleasure (and other things as well, I have severe depression.) It seems that my mind takes 2-3 week "breaks" when it comes to producing regulatory hormones.

Any thoughts?

I have been trying suppliments like D-L, Phenylalanine. But that only seems to *enhance* the feeling if you can get it in the first place.

I might have to try testosterone injections, or some other form of horomone pill. Does anyone have any suggestions?!

I'm pretty desperate here! I'm supposed to be at my sexual prime!!!

I've been on a weight lifting , aerobic excercise, and strict nutritional diet plan for the past 4 months. Absoultely, positively, NO improvements have been seen in libido. None. Zip. So, please don't think it is due to a lack of any of these things.

Re: My libido is missing! at 20! Help, guys!!

Hey Jamie! I'm new here and I'm not a doctor or anything, but I'm the same age you are and I have this no-sensations-or-feelings-from-any-stimulation problem only when I force myself to go to the bathroom and masturbate when I don't feel like doing it. I mean, aren't you obligating yourself to do something that should be done naturally and even occasionally? I almost bleed when I do it without pleasure, so I just don't masturbate for a week if I don't feel like it, and I don't feel bad or "out of order" because of it.
I just read what you wrote the other day and I guess your problem is related to your need to have it done EVERY DAY, even if you don't feel like it. If you don't get sensations or feelings from stimulations, I believe it is because you're not in the mood to do that.
I really don't care about how often I masturbate or how often I get erections. Gosh, sometimes they just come out of nothing when I'm on the bus! hahahaha And there are times that I don't know why, but I really want to masturbate and my dick will just say NO! and it just don't get hard. What can I do? Spank it til it get hard? Hell no! It hurts...hahahahaha I just give it a break, relax and do something else. Whenever I notice it is getting hard because of any stimulation, I get advantage of the moment and masturbate.
You see, I think you should limber up a little about your equipment. It's not a machine! When you realize that it won't work exactly the way you want it to work, you'll feel better.
I hope it helps you, buddy!

Ok I have to say I noticed first you mentioned depression. Have you seen a doctor to help with that?? Depression does play a big role when it comes to your libido. So why not go talk to your doctor about this. Try to get the depression taken care of first. And then after that is taken care of see if your libido returns. If not then take the next step and talk to yoru doctor again about that.
It is good that you are keeping logs of this...take that in to your doctor so he can review them.

As with the other two posts have stated, don't worry about your erection. You're just adding more stress to your body. Secondly, if you're not in the mental state because of some kind of stress(i.e. your depression), you won't be able to perform at your sexual peak or even get an erection. So just relax. Treat your depression and everything else will follow when your happier.

You mentioned depression, are you taking any anti-depressants? They can often have a negative aspect on sex drive. As can depression.

Jamie.....agreeing with the previous post about anti-depressents. I am a female on anti-depressents and they can do this same thing to women. If your not on any meds for this, talk to your Dr about it, and if you are, talk to him(or her)about changing your meds. there are MANY meds for depression and sometimes you have to go through the "gammot" to find just the right one that will work with your body and not against it.
Good Luck.....Suzanne

Re: My libido is missing! at 20! Help, guys!!

Allright, I see what you guys are saying. But, I guess my original question becomes:

Why do I only get horny around 2 times per month?!

Isn't this indicative of a hormonal problem? To answer thoes with questions regarding my medication status: No, I'm not taking any anti-depressants. I stopped taking thoes about a year ago because none of them worked one bit. Also, I've been in treatment for depression for 5 years and it hasn't helped either.

Horny is connected directly to hormones, specifically testosterone. Low testostereone is associated with depression, muscle loss, fatigue, irritiblity. These same symptoms are associated with low thyroid along with dry skin, constipation, hair loss, and weight loss/gain. It's easy to check, just go to your doctor and have a blood test for testosterone and TSH (thyroid). Take along a list of your symptoms and give it to the doc.

By the way, low thyroid is often mistaken for depression and will not respond to anti-depressants.

Can that be treated?? I have libido probs too. It's most likely due to the fact that I have Hepatitis C. It's known to cause hypo-/hyperthyroidims and tons of other problems. I'll check with the doctor, but maybe there are some natural ways of treating this.

I'm trying Horny Goat Weed. Does anyone have any comments about this particular product? Any known reason not to use it? (I.E. destroys heart, liver, etc.)

Re: My libido is missing! at 20! Help, guys!!

Why dont you just go talk to your doctor first before messing around with Herbal remedies. The reason I say is you truly dont know what is going on with your body. Hence by not knowing you could be causing more problems by trying herbal solutions. Dont get me wrong herbal methods do work but they work alot better when you know what you are trying to treat.
Take my yongest child for instance. He had extreme colic during his few months after being born. I talked to his doctor and of course I get the age thing we just have to live through it and such. Well I knew of a herbal remedy and decided that since the doctor had no solutions to see if it would for my son. It did work and rather well at that. But you see I knew what we were treating my son for. You only have thoughts on what you are trying to fix.
So go see your doctor get some simple blood work done and find out that way what is going on. Before you go trying to self treat yourself.

Re: My libido is missing! at 20! Help, guys!!

Hi!

I got the bloodwork done. The result:

Low testosterone! (T = 185)

Bloodwork is not simple. I hate the idea of someone sticking a needle into an important vein!! I can't stand it!! I have to get two more tests done just to CONFIRM the results of the last one. What the hell?

My thyroid is fine. Shut up about it already. I'm tired of hearing about the thyroid. I'm 20. Not 50. Same goes for the "it's all in your head" people!

So, just like I explained before, I have low testosterone.

The question remains: What do I do about it?!
[This message has been edited by Jamie Silent (edited 03-01-2002).]

Re: My libido is missing! at 20! Help, guys!!

I did. However, he only informed me that he'd be doing more and more bloodwork to test for anything else that has gone wrong. I suspect thet he'll eventually refer me to an endocrinologist.

So, during these months and months of waiting for "test results," I'm still stuck with a half the minimum average testosterone level!

Re: My libido is missing! at 20! Help, guys!!

Sdp,is right you need to discuss the next steps with your doctor. He can help you find ways to fix your low testosterone. But you will have to wait until things are confirmed. The reasons they do more than one test is to protect both you and themselves. This way they make sure that is the problem and then procede to try and fix it.
Also I can agree that bloodwork isnt fun but it is simple. I HATE needles with a passion. But when it needs to be done I have it done. I just dont look which doesnt really help all that much but it gets me through it.
Call your doctor and ask what the steps will once the first results are confirmed.
