Red/Purple marks on groin?

Hi, just so you all know, I am an 18 year old male, and I am a virgin (have refrained from most sexual activity until I marry). My problem is this..

For the past few months or so, I have noticed these purple/red marks on my thigh/pelvic area. Some marks are 1 inch long, while others are either smaller, or bigger. I have 1 mark under my groin area that is about 1 inch wide, and about 3 or 4 inches long, and it is more of a purplish color. Some of the larger marks/patches are very soft tissue.

I'm a little worried here, not really sure what this could be. From researching what little bit I could, I have narrowed the possible options down to these:

-Molluscum contagiosum

That was all I could come up with, perhaps it is none of the above... But if so, the only one I can see myself being affected by is Ringworm.. Like I said, no sexual activity for me, therefore it couldn't be herpes, correct? It doesn't really itch all that bad, and I have heard that Ringworm is supposed to itch a lot..

I might also add that with my job, I spend long hours at the computer, at least 8 hours a day.. Could this be causing it?

Whatever help you can supply me with would be appreciated, thanks.<p>[This message has been edited by SpaggyBoy (edited 08-23-2001).]

Re: Red/Purple marks on groin?

By the sounds of it you might actually just be getting a few stretch marks. In the beginning they are redish purplish and the length and width depend on each person. If that is what it is then you can simply go get some cocoa butter lotion and start rubbing that on them everyday and the stretch marks will either go away or be really faint.

If that isn't the issue, I suggest you see your doctor for further advice. =)

Re: Red/Purple marks on groin?

First off, thanks for your addvice.

I'm still a little curious though. Are stretch marks usually pretty tender? For instance, the larger patch/mark that I have is really tender and soft, sort of like a deep bruise.

Also, I'm not obese at all (160 lbs.) and have obviously never been pregnant, so I guess I'm just sorta curious how I would end up with stretch marks... If it's the sitting at the computer all day, causing some sort of breakdown in the skin tissue.. Or what.

I guess I'm just sort of nervous here, the thought that I might have something very wrong with me is scary, and very worrying. I'm not the type who can just go drop the ol' trousers in front of my doctor (or anybody for that matter) which is why I seek advice online. Thanks again for your help

Re: Red/Purple marks on groin?

Welcome to the board. First let me say that I personally think you've made a good decision to wait on the sex, that's a tough decision to make and keep in todays society! No, certainly isn't herpes, but I'm not real sure either what it could be. I'd offer this suggestion. On the home page of this site there is a site location called "ask the doc", I'm sure there is a small charge, but you ask the question on line and will get a response. Then, you probably get the question answered and you don't have to drop your pants! Your situation doesn't sound serious or I'd probably be saying to go see a doc. On that note, I konw that going to the doc and having all that equipement checked isn't fun...but you're gonna have to do it when you get older.....just remember, it's their job, they see naked bodies all day long!

Hey Spaggyboy,

You don't have to be overweight or pregnant to get stretch marks, they are actually hereditary. But I don't think they are tender, so that may not be what it is, the ask doc site is useful I have heard, so that could be an option for you. I will keep researching for you and see if I find anything else it could be.

Re: Red/Purple marks on groin?

Cerainly could be stretch marks, and they can occur as your grow and then either get slightly smaller or loose a small amount of weight and the skin doesn't go back to conform to your body.

Could also be just rubbing of the skin to cause the itchiness. Could be a change in the pigment of the skin or a melanin change!

See your doctor if in doubt!
