For over a month now, I've had an intermittent ache in my right testicle. I've searched through various web sites trying to figure out the cause, but all the problems I've seen have symptoms which aren't there in my case. I've already seen a doc since this problem started but he never found any problem.
Both my testicles feel normal (ie firm but not hard), they're both the same size, there are no mysterious lumps, I don't suffer any ache in the groin, and there's no burning sensation when I urinate.
However: my left testicle hangs much lower than the right, and I have had problems getting an erection lately (although I can still ejaculate easily). Although that's probably because I'm worrying about my testicle problem, cos I still wake up with an erection nearly every morning.
It is definitely more of a vague ache than pain, so I can't pinpoint exactly where it's coming from, although it (usually) only occurs when I'm lying down. It doesn't occur at all when I'm walking around on my feet.
Any ideas what could be causing this (and how to fix it!) would be much appreciated.
Sounds like you may have a varicocele, which is a mass of swollen veins in the scrotum near the testicle. It happens usually on the left side rather than the right, but does occur on the right side sometimes. I had one of these for several years and had it corrected by surgery 2 years ago, so I know plenty about them. The symptoms you describe about the dull intermittent ache that only occurs when lying down rather than standing up are related to a varicocele. I had almost identical experience. However, it could be something else. One way to tell for sure though is to examine your scrotum after a hot shower and the scrotum is loose with the testicles hanging low. If you have a varicocele, you will feel the twisted veins in the scrotum, that feels like a "bag of worms". Sometimes you can see them too, as they are blue colored and kind of knotted looking. If you don't have any of this, then its probably not a varicocele and may be something else. If you do have a varicocele, let me know and I'll tell you all you need to know about it.
I too had and have an ache in my left testicle for years. I went to three docs of which two had no clue but the third insists it's a pinched nerve in my ball. He suggested a "Nerve Block" where they deaden the nerve causing the pain. I primarily notice it while sitting (I'm experiencing slight pain as I write this). Go back to the doc and inquire about the nerve block. I will follow through with the procedure when I can no longer stand the pain.
