It all depends on the doctor on how he/she will deal with you being there. My Dh has gone to several of mine. Most times the doctor ignored him( but that just goes to show that most military doctors tend to be jerks). But when we got pregnant with our first child and he went with me to those visits the doctor was great. Talked to him just as much as he talked to me. And always asked if DH had any questions or concerns.
With our second child it was a different doctor who ignored Dh during every visit.
I personally prefer DH to go with me. I feel comfortable with it. At first he was nervous and didnt want to go but he got use to it and is fine with it. He says he learned alot and has more respect for what women have to go through on a yearly basis.
