I was wondering if anybody have used these to treat impotence? What was your experience with them? Neither sounds very appealing (injection into my penis vs. a urethral suppository). Are they not as unpleasant as they sound?
No personal experience, and I don't know how valuable the following anecdote is, but: I have a friend who does porn and he said that Caverject is sometimes used on porn sets. He has used it and he said that yes, the needle is kind of freaky but only hurts as much as a regular needle. He described it as a 3-or-4 hour super hardon that doesn't go away and actually gets kind of scary since it doesn't go down.
I have been using a generic version of Caverjet for about a year and love it. The generic is cheaper and just as effective. Since Caverjet is not covered by my insurance it saves a lot of money. It cost about as much as 2 Viagra pills for several months supply.
Using the injections, I get good, hard erections about 5 mins after the shot and they last as long as I want them to last. In the old days, I went limp right after I came. Now, I can climax and be ready to go again in just a few mins. It is almost like being 19 again and I am almost 50. In fact it sometimes seems strange to go to sleep with a hardon afer lovemaking. I have always had a flaccid penis afterwards.
I tried Viagra for several months but it just did not work. I was getting every side effect in the book. I was at the point that sex was almost not worth the trouble.
I talked to my doctor about Muse because I thought it would be easier to put a tablet up my dick than to shoot it with a needle. He said that his patients had better luck with Caverjet.
I kept telling him that I just could not stick a needle in my dick. There was no way that was going to happen. He said that since I could not take the Viagra, I had no other good choice unless I wanted implants and wanted to become the bionic dick. I thought the implants would just be going way too far.
Then he said he would show me how easy and painless the injection was. I dropped my pants and pulled my member out of my underwear. He got a syringe and filled it with water. He showed me how to pull out and stretch my member, how to hold the needle, and where to stick it in. I kept hesitating because it just seemed wrong. He finally looked at me and said "Hell, just get on with it!" I did as I was told and did not really feel a thing. It is easy once they show you how to do it. (Now that I think about it, the worst part was standing in a doctor's exam room with my pants around my ankles, holding my dick out of my underwear, pointing a needle at it and then talking about how I was going to insert the needle).
I know that this answer is long but I hope it answers your questions. Even after all these months, I am still sometimes hesitant about taking the shot. All I do is remind myself how good that erection feels and the pleasure I can give my wife with it and all is well. It only takes a second and the pleasure can last for hours.
I tried Caverject because of similar good reviews I had read, and the fact that my insurance actually covers it!
Unfortunately, it didn;t appear to work that well for me. I'm pretty sure I did it right as I have some experience in preparing and injecting self-medications. (I have MS so I prepare and inject myself regularly.)
The lowest dose of Caverject (5 mcg, I think) just didn't work. I wonder if a stronger does would do the trick, or if I was just too dammed traumatized by the whole concept of my wife giving me a shot in my penis.
In any event, the Viagra works better, but is not lasting to ejaculation. What to do, what to do...
Thank you all for responding. I appreciate the fact that you took the time and effort to do so. It is also beneficial to hear what others think about these items. I would much rather use Viagra or one of its new competitors. But, my insurance company, the erection Nazi's, won't pay for it. It will pay for either Muse or Caverject for a limited amount each month though. The only way it'll pay for Viagra is if neither Caverject or Muse works. Sigh.....I can't afford to buy Viagra on my own. I even went on the Internet and searched to see if I could get it at a somewhat of a reasonable price from a Canadian source. No luck. I am having impotence side effects and other sexual dysfunction issues because of antidepressant medication that I am on. Oh well...I will just have to settle for trying different drug combos to counteract my antidepressant side effects. The ironic thing is, by the time I try all these prescriptions to counteract my impotence issues, the insurance company would probably have saved more money just paying for a prescription of Viagra than for a bucket full of other prescriptions to see something that will counter the side effects or a different antidepressant that works but does not have the same effect on me. I just can't get over the notion of sticking needles into my penis or shooting a suppository up it. Uggghhhhh.....
My advice to you,use2b, is to talk to your doctor. Some men need a higher dose of Viagra than others. Perhaps that is the situation with you. Also, have you tried the Muse (the urethral suppository)? Perhaps you do need a higher dose. Good luck to you.
I certainly welcome imput on this matter from anyone else out there. Thanks!!!!!!!!!
Talk to your doctor. My dosage is .30ccm (I think). It is equal to 30 units of insulin. I use the same syringes as a diabetic uses for shots. It works fine for me even though I am on a generic version.
Your doc should be able to come up with something that works for you. Good luck
thanks for the insight, guys. I'll bring up the Caverject dosage issue with my urologist when I meet with him at my next appointment, next week.
P.S. I read on another section of this board that combining Viagra with an over-the-counter med called Stamina Rx works very well, and is supposedly safe. Anyone here know of this combination? I actually have both meds in my possession so I will likely try it this weekend. (The wife wants me to get her pregnant.)
I have been treated for mild impotence ever since colon surgery in the early 90's. Luckily for me, a doctor specializing in this treatment was located nearby. I, and my wife, have done the counseling, the physical and all other treatments he was aware of. I was a user of Viagra before it went on the market and had results from the highest dosage, but the side effects (extreme headaches) make it less than desirable. I was treated with caverject, also in a test group, and had remarkable results, which were very, very satisfactory for my wife and me. A male nurse instructed me how to inject and actually did the first injection and monitored the effect and the duration of the erection. The pain was no big deal after getting over the idea of where it was being injected. I have used it or the generic version for the last 8 years. The doctor recommended and prescribed a micro needle to be used instead of the needle in the kit. You hardly feel anything. The erections last a long time and make for more enjoyable lovemaking for my wife, because I no longer go limp right after orgasm and can continue to please her. I was also in a test group for Muse and the results for me were anything BUT satisfactory. It wasn't a big deal inserting the suppository, but it did not do anything for me. I have used other GNC recommended products and the best results were with Stamina RX, but it has now been pulled off the market by FDA for the time being, I believe. It affected my libido for up to 36 hours. Sorry for the length (no pun intended) of this message. Good luck to all who are looking for a solution. I recommend confiding in your Doctor and he will help you and has had more people than you can realize already ask for help.
