Post Suppliments that DON'T Work

Here is my official list of male sexual supplements that do absolutely nothing. Write 'em down:

Tribex (Tribulus Terrestrius)
Horny Goat Weed
Red Kat
D,L-Phenylalanine
5-HTP
AndroGel (or HRT in general.)

I've just started HRT, namely testosterone injections. Now, you say this does nothing as a "male sexual suppliment". Can you define that term? What are these "suppliments" said to do for guys?

HRT is notorious for failing to restore sexual drive. The supplements are all touted to increase both initial drive and pleasure experienced.

It doesn't matter how much testosterone you have. If your body dosen't metabolize it correctly, or most of it stays bound to SHBG within the bloodstream, it's rendered absolutely unusable.

I have used Horny Goat Weed (the pills I had also had maca...I think the maca was actually what gave me the results) for 2 months now and I am very happy with the results. The pills didn't start working until after 3-4 days of taking supplementing them...and the results improved the longer i took the pills.

You have got to be kidding me. What exactly did they do that you are sure wasn't just a placebo effect?

Okay, there's some real snake oil out there, but the truth is, there's a pharmcological basis for most of the herbs and nutrients that are found in the usual foumlas marketed for sexual fitness. For example, L-arginine, an amino acid, is found in most preparations. It works as a kind of inverse Viagra. There are two hormones involved in an erection: the first one relaxes the smooth muscles and allows blood to flow, the second neutralized the first. Viagra works to inhibit the second. Arginine is helpful in producing the first. My experience with it has been that it is quite useful, as are many of the others that are out there, including a few on your list. I really hope you find a solution for yourself, but you are giving bad information to others who might well benefit from natural supplements.

If you use L-Arginine you'll need to take more than the bottle suggests. About 2000 to 3000mg 45 minutes before activity will help keep you harder if you have a tendency to go half soft from time to time.

Jamie.... you cant say these supplements do absolutly nothing in general.... they apparently did nothing for YOU!.. androgel does work for some people! Its just a matter of a correct diagnosis and the correct medications.

Jamie Silent:
I agree with Matt. Androgel has helped me. Maybe you should try it.

Re: Suppliments that DON'T Work

Yeah, what the others have said. I've corresponded with others who have said androgel works, others who have greatly benefitted from testosterone shots. My experience has found that yohimbe works GREAT, but causes insomnia for the rest of the night and causes me to urinate frequently. Basically, I get the same results from viagra without the need to pee. I have also found that tribulus is helping me with libido, which is half the battle, anyway. I'm definitely more horny when taking 1g/day. I also have found benefit from l-arginine...funny thing is it's effect on morning wood - always! I did not get any benefit from a HGW-maca formula, nor from Muira Puama.

Good luck finding what you need.

Re: Suppliments that DON'T Work

I have tried Androgel at doses of 5g, 10g, and 15g (not even an accepted dose!) I spent about six months with it. It made things worse. It raised estrogen, and shut down my natural production of FSH and LH. Good work, Unimed!
