I first masturbated when I was 18. i.e that was my first orgasm, I only had wet dreams up to then. And it was really voluntary masturbaion either, I didn't make a conscious descision to masturbate - my body just seem to get into the mode while I was in bed. It's only in recent years when I hear stories about boys masturbating at the age of 12 that I realise how late I was. Is this abnormal?
There is no time frame for when you become sexually self explorative or curious. I have a friend of a mine who SUPPOSEDLY started masturbating at 21-22. I have another friend of mine who SUPPOSEDLY started at about 7-8. Textbooks say it starts around puberty (11-12 yrs old), but I think its all individual. I started at 13.

Some people masturbate before puberty, Some never at all and have wet dreams. But it's not abnormal, peoples' rate of physical exploration is different with each person
Every kid explores their body, but some kids only explore and then go do something else! I didn't masturbate myself to orgasm until I was 19. I had already been very sexually active at that point. I just never bothered to masturbate (and I have no idea why). Once I started I made it a daily ritual for a while. Making up for lost time, I suppose.
There's NOTHING wrong with you. You're perfectly normal. Every other person takes a different time to explore their body and to try new things. I never had a wet dream before and that doesn't make me abnormal!! Enjoy!
