Since about a couple months though, I keep bleeding when I'm masturbating. If I'm using a toy it's a couple drops of blood, if I'm using my fingers it's usually half of those covered in blood. I thought I might have scratched myself and stopped doing it for about a month (I've been feeling ill anyway), trying to be less rough etc. but it doesn't seem to help.
The bleeding never persists. It's just the blood then, I wipe it off and that's all. I'm not sure if it's related to my menstrual cycle or to birth control pills (I have to take these for hormonal problems, although it's not the first time. I've been on and off them for 3 years or so) but I just want to hear some opinions since I'm pretty worried about this. |
Spotting (light bleeding in between periods) while on any form of hormonal contraception is usually normal for most people, and occurs as a side effect of the pill/implant etc. It doesn't necessarily indicate a cause for concern. If it does however bother you greatly, you can speak to your doctor about potentially trying a different type of hormonal contraceptive, that may not result in light bleeding. When I was on the pill, my spotting was literally like having a full on period in between periods, almost like I was bleeding for the entire month, but as soon as I switched and got the implant, I had light spotting and soon after my periods stopped all together and so did the bleeding/spotting.
If you don't notice any blood when you're not masturbating, you may potentially just be too rough with what you do. Anything from having a wonky/sharp nail to not having enough lubricant can cause potential friction, (which feels like burning), irritation, scratching and therefore discomfort. Any minor injuries could become worsened or infected if you continue without giving yourself time to recover. It could also be a sign of a bacterial/viral infection which doesn't mean it's and STD. Perhaps give yourself a break for a while, for your area to heal, and if you do want to use toys, make sure there's plenty of lubricant to aid the experience.
If this is an ongoing problem or causes any more anxiety, don't hesitate to speak to a doctor - they're there to help you without judgement, so don't be shy. And chances are, they're probably much better at getting down to the root of the problem much quicker than you or I, and will know what to give to you in case it is a little more serious like an infection.
I hope this helps you, all the best.
