My girlfriend went to the doc today to get those emergency contraception pills. I was wonderin how effective they are and if they will work if taken within the 72hr period.

It is a sliding scale on their effectiveness. The closer they are taken to the time of unprotected sex the higher precentage of them working. The longer one waits the less effective they are.
For example if taken with in a few hours of the unprotected sex then they are about 89 to 95% effective in preventing pregnancy. The longer one goes the more that drops.
Most of the time they are extremely effective. But just like everything else they are not 100% effective. But it is better tahn nothing that is for sure.
You both need to relax and just wait to see how things go.

You did the right thing getting them. All you can do now is sit and wait-as hard as that may be. Make sure you support your girl fully too.

Hopefully you've learnt a good lesson through all of this-ALWAYS use protection!

ok, we had sexual intercourse on Wedsenday, and she took the pill thursday around 5pm. So most likley the pill will take care of anything if there is anything?

i have taken emergency contraceptives 3 times. and i was on the pill when i took them. just because you are on the pill doesn't mean that you don't mess up, or forget to take one, or whatever...but out of the times that i have unfortunately had to take them, my period always came 2-3 days after i took it. you just have to be patient and wait it out. try not to be stressed out about it, or make your girlfriend stressed; that can just prolong her period. good luck
