vaginal health, scared

I have a picking compulsion and I have been picking the skin on my vagina for a while to get rid of ingrown hairs. For one ingrown hair, I punctured my skin with a needle and it literally pierced my skin. I can put an earring through it. I'm scared that I've ruined myself down there and I feel incredibly disgusting. I have razor bumps and scars and I really just need any kind of help, please

Hi, you really shouldn't pull your ingrown hairs with a needle. Irritating the skin of the vagina can lead to a infection. Ingrown hairs are hairs that grows at an abnormal angle and turns back into the skin, causing the formation of a pustule or papule. Razor bumps and can turn into ingrown hairs. There is a safer way to prevent them. Before you shave the vagina use warm water and shaving gel or shaving cream. Do not use hot water it will cause irritation of the skin. The vagina is very sensitive so take your time while shaving. Don't rush! Use a good razor. Also if the razor starts to get duel then it's time to change it. Shave in the direction of the hair growth and don't go over one area repeatedly with the razor. After shaving you can use a good cream to moisture the area. If you do get a razor bump or bumps. Leave it alone. Let it heal on it's own. Clean it with peroxide and put a little of neosporin on it.

Also, I've found that shaving sideways or down towards the clitoris instead of up towards the stomach reduces your chances of razor burn. Sure it's not as close of a shave, but it definitely reduces those bumps.
