Bcontrol and anti depressents - Sexual Health - Teens Message Board

My girlfirend is currently on the pill (sorry dont know which one) and will soon be taking Zoloft. I know some meds lower the chances of Bcontrol working, so I was wondering if Zloft, or any other anti-depressents, have been known for this.

The only med that has a Negative effect on the pill is anytype of Anti-biotic. (penacillin, amoxicillin etc.)

SSRI's (anti-depressants) are FINE with the Pill. Good luch to her w/ the Zoloft... if that doesnt work tell her to ask the Doc about Paxil CR. (thats what Im on)

Some antidepressants can screw with the birth control pill : but it's more the pill screwing with the antidepressants than the antidepressants screwing with the pill. Tricyclic antidepressants are most famous for this. But no, antidepressants won't keep the pill from working properly, and if her Dr. prescribed her Zoloft and a birth control pill at the same time, I'll bet you the bottom dollar they're safe to take together.

Of course, if she's unsure, she should ask her doctor.

I think the best thing is for her to ask her doctor/gyno/health care provider/pharmacist and see what they say.
