Red face Tampon Usage...too afraid to try one!

Okay so for all of you who use tampons...i've heard so many bad things about tampons...like it causes cancer and it contains asbestos...and this and that and this and that...but dang i hate pads, i want to try one. But I'm too scared to use one. How the heck do you fit anything up there and how can you keep it in for that amount of time? My biggest fear is it getting stuck...or actually loosing the string...that's my biggest fear...so how do you think i can overcome this?

Thumbs up

Hola! Well first of all, you can fit a tampon in your vagina. The tampon won't get stuck if you leave it in long enough so it gets fairly wet. You won't lose the string either. When you decided to give it a try, remember to relax. If you don't relax, your may muscles will tighten up making it harder to insert the tampon. Hope this helps a little. Good luck!

The risk involved with tampons is a very small margin. Most people use them over the course of their lives and never experience any problems.
It may take some time to get used to, but it's worth it, in my opinion.
You cannot lose a tampon up there, and it does stay in place if inserted properly. You won't even be able to feel it there.

Tampons don't contain asbestos or anything else harmful How does it fit inside you? Um, your vagina is a lot bigger than a tampon. Remember that a penis can fit inside and also a baby can come out! Look at a newborn's head and you'll see why a tampon fits LOL

Why not try inserting a finger into your vagina first, just so you can reassure yourself that a tampon will fit? As for losing the string, well, you can't. It hangs outside of you. If for some reason it gets pushed up into your vagina (this has never happened to me), just stick your fingers in and fish it out. The tampon can't get "lost" anywhere. Your vagina is basically a closed tube up on top. The cervix protrudes into it, but no way can a tampon migrate through your cervix.

The tampon also doesn't get "stuck." Just pull on the string and it comes out.

There's really nothing to be afraid of. Try using one. Remember, you're in control, so you can't hurt yourself. Stop if it feels uncomfortable. I had a little trouble inserting one the first time. I was aiming it straight up, instead of at an angle towards the small of my back.

Good luck!

All of the posters are correct regarding the tampons. They certainly make your life a lot easier since you can go swimming with them in and they are so easy to carry. I have probably used them at least 20-25 years now and never had a major problem at all. Being one of the older posters I can certainly say that I would never switch back to a pad unless medically necessary. Take your time getting used to them so you feel comfortable with them and in no time at all you will be a pro at using them and will never go back to pads. Some companies even offer trial tampon kits so check some of the manufacturers websites to see if they offer this sort of thing.
