Age for first "boyfriend" - Sexual Health - Teens Message Board

What age is OK for a girl to have her first boyfriend? My 10 yo is wondering, and so am I. I told her she could have a friend who is a boy, but not a boyfriend. Am I missing something? She is well adjusted and I know the boy she likes is a nice fellow, so I'm thinking he could come by one night for pizza and dvds, as a family friend.

Personally, I would allow my 10 year old (if I had one) to have a boyfriend. I wouldn't allow my child to go out on dates without someone to supervise or be alone with that person. It's more of a label, but if it makes your child happy, I don't see anything wrong with it.

I will never be the woman with the perfect hair who can wear white and not spill on it and chair committees and write thank you notes. And I can't feel bad about that.

I know many parents say no boyfreinds until 15 or maybe 16 [this though would be considered dating more than anything]i remember having "boyfriends" in elementry school... ofcourse only in 5th grade, but they were nothing more than a boy that was a friend... just a title... I don't see a problem with that personally, in most cases there's no harm done except maybe a broken heart that'll heal in a week- I think the family friend thing would be neat and the fact you know the boy is decent makes it all better... little flings like that are going to happen regardless- anywho, best of luck!

I didn't have my first REAL Bf (as in relationship) till I was 16. But some people consider that too young. But I had some middle school 'boyfriends' when I was younger than that. But like the other poster said, it was just a title thing, holding hands maybe a peck on the cheek. But when I was 10, I wasn't the least bit interested in boys, much less did I want a BF. I don't see the harm in it, obviously as long as they aren't sleeping together or anything! But there is nothing wrong with calling someone your 'boyfriend' & holding their hand, stuff like that.
