At what stage of your cycle were you in when you had the smear done? I was always told to get it done mid cycle so that there wouldn't be any chance of the smear getting any blood on it, but even so i usually ended up bleeding and not from the smear being done "roughly".
I'd think my period was over but there always seemed to be like a "pocket" of blood sitting up there somewhere. It has happened to me after sex and my husband would make a joke about having sex and shaking things up to get all the blood out!!!!! Also, when having my smears done, i was always told my cervix was higher up than normal. Not sure what that meant exactly. I'd have a bit of bleeding after the smear, but nothing which worried me. Even if the smear was done rough, you wouldn't be bleeding all day long either. Like me, maybe you had "old" blood from your previous period still there and it's now come out after having the speculum inserted. With any irregularities, you ought to consult a doctor to determine how serious it really is, otherwise you may be worrying for nothing. Hope all's well, as smears aren't pleasant anyway
