My doctor has prescribed Lexapro 10mg for severe postpartum depression. I have to admit I am terrified to start taking the medicine due to the possibility of sexual side effects. My husband and I have been together 9 1/2 years, married for 7 and have four kids under the age of eight. The only sexual problem we ever have is lack of opportunity. We both still want it frequently and it is good when we get the chance to. It has been even BETTER since he had his vasectomy after our baby was born 8 months ago because there is no worry of getting pregnant anymore.

With that being said, I want to know the honest truth from anyone taking Lexapro. I will not take any medicine that will take my sex drive or ability away from me. I am only 27 and am not willing to give up that part of my life.

Not all meds cause low sex drive on everyone so there is no way you can no if it will lower your sex drive or not. You need to start the medication so your doctor can see if it is effective for your problems. If you are still hesitant to take it then call your doc and ask him to switch you to something that does not have the possibility of decreased sex drive. This is something you should have brought up when he wrote out your prescription.

I am a male, but have been on lexapro 10mg for about a year. It definitely has not taken away my sexual drive but it has made it more diffcult to reach an orgasm. Some of the other SSRIs (class of drugs with Lexapro) I've heard will lower sexual drive. Lexapro is newer and better. If you feel you need the medication try it, if it impacts you sexually you can stop taking it, any side effects goe away once you stop.
