Soap in the area - Sexual Health - Women Message Board

I've been reading old messages on the subject of smell and the vagina and I just wanted to clear up something. Soap in the vagina = bad. Got it. Let nature do its work. But how about soap outside, the whole vulva area in general? Or is that a self cleaning area also?

I usually use soap in the general vulva area, especially if I've been cycling (wearing cycling shorts with cream). Often it's antibacterial and I'm wondering if I'm doing more harm than good.

Unless you are sensitive to soaps and perfumes in that area and have reactions to it, there is no harm in using soaps there. That area is not self cleaning (now wouldn't that be nice!)

You might try using a different soap than you use all over. My wife uses Dove in the sensitive areas and Irish Spring everywhere else.

I would not use an antibacterial cream when bicycling as this could indeed cause problems and possible infections especially if it got up into your vagina.

i use dial when cleaning that area. i have yet to get an infection...knock on wood!!!
