First they arent going to make you tighter,they make it easier for you to grip his penis during intercourse. The only way to go tighter is surgery and to me that just seems a bit much to do if you know what I mean.
Also it can take longer than a month for either of you to notice a difference,chances are you will notice first since you will be the one squeezing those muscles. To use your kegal exercises during sex will give that sensation of tighter.
To make sure you are doing them right practice when you go to the bathroom,it is the same muscles you use to stop the flow of urine. As for how many that varies. There are sites that give you a set number to do every day. I personally dont keep track since I wind up doing them through out the day.
