Yes, it can be milky in colour. If it's cottage cheese consistency and you are itchy or burning, and the odour is different than usual, see your doctor as that is indicative of a yeast infection. I think you can buy yeast infection treatments at the drugstore now, however if you don't know what a yeast infection is, and have no history of them, I recommend seeing your doctor anyway to get a firm diagnosis initially. Some people are prone to yeast infections and get them frequently so they know when they have one and are able to save a trip to the doctor for subsequent ones.
