possibly pregnant -- please help!!

hello. i'm a 20 year old college student and i've been freaking out over whether or not i may be pregnant. my mom, my best friend and my boyfriend think i'm worrying over nothing, but i'm not so sure. i have a 28-29 day cycle that is very regular. i started taking birth control pills(ovcon 35) 20 days before my next period. on the 19th day before i'm supposed to start my period, i performed oral sex on my bf. he did not ejaculate, but i know there was some pre-*** in my mouth. i did have my clothes off, but the only body part his penis was remotely close to was my face. i had some spit on my face and i wiped it off with my hand. he left the room and i got off the bed and picked up my panties - they were still "wet" from where i had been excited - i untangled them and put them on. i just can't remember if my hand was completely dry before i touched them. about 15 hours later, on the 18th day before my period, i was so upset that i took the 'morning after' pill called "plan b", which is a synthetic all-progestin series of two pills. i asked the clinician at planned parenthood about my new birth control pills, and she said to keep taking them like i normally would. i have taken a total of 6 birth control pills and i havent missed any, tho i already know they provide no protection at this point, i just wonder if they could have had a detrimental reaction with the morning after pill. now its 15 days until i'm supposed to start, and my pelvic area feels so weird. i've been having a clear or sometimes white discharge. it doesnt smell funny or hurt when it comes out. does this mean i'm ovulating and the morning after pill failed? in a fit of desperation i <shamefully> explained my incident to my mom and she said i have nothing to worry about, but everything i read online seems to say that if sperm is anywhere near your body you can get pregnant, it stays in your body for weeks at a time, etc. etc. etc. and i'm scared out of my mind. do i have a reason to worry? i appreciate any and all responses.

Oh my,,,,I don't know where you read that, but it's bull. There is about a 1 millionth chance that you are pregnant. It can be so difficult to get pregnant even in the BEST of circumstances!
Even if you had some sperm on your hand, you would have had to be ovulating at the time, and shoved your finger to far up inside you and then STILL there would be hardly any chance.
Think of it this way: When a man ejaculates he releases a million sperm. Maybe, just maybe, one of them will reach and fertilize the egg. So you had a little bit (you think) on your hand, you walked to your panties and put them on, and probably wiped whatever you had left on your hand off.
If your pregnant, it wouldn't be from this encounter.

I'd say she is talking about that! There is no way you are pregnant.. If you are that paranoid then don't be having sex at all! WOW... I'd say you prolly have a better chance of winning the lottery! So Good luck with that! and if you are only on day 15 with your pills anything can happen.. you are having different hormones put in your system... CALM DOWN!! You arn't pregnant you are just paranoid!!

Re: possibly pregnant -- please help!!

I was referring to the comment you stated about reading something on the internet. You said that you heard that if sperm was anywhere near your body you could get pregnant.
There was another poster a week or two ago that had also read somewhere basically the same thing. She got a little sperm on her chest and thought she could get pregnant from that. Believe me,,,the only way to get pregnant is through having sexual intercourse with a hetrosexual couple, artificial insemenation or IVF which are both performed by a doctor, and is done for infertile couples. Yes sperm does swim, but not from your chest into your vagina.

Re: possibly pregnant -- please help!!

thanks for your replies ladies. i apologize for sounding like an eejit - i know my circumstances seem far fetched - but i have read several different sources at planned parenthood [ removed ] that sperm can live in your body for a full week, sperm is still alive if its still wet, even if has been wiped off of something or sitting on a table somewhere - they didnt say anything about tables or anything i just threw that in hypothetically, but they clearly put out the message that even if you dont have sexual intercourse, that in some unforseen chain of events, you can still become pregnant.... and several other websites that center around ovulation and pregnancy and whatnot( and are obviously geared towards women who WANT to become mothers) have pretty much similar info..... its just driving me insane, i just can't remember if i still had that damn spit on my hand.

sorry for the rant. i'm very grateful for your replies.

Re: possibly pregnant -- please help!!

and just for the record - the last time i had sexual intercourse was 7 weeks ago. i've had two periods that lasted five days a piece since then. the last pregnancy test i took was 2 weeks ago and it was negative. i've only been on the birth control pills a week, and i'm taking them in the hopes that they will make my periods less severe. i don't intend on having sex with anyone until i'm married now - its too much of an anxiety issue for me, but even just this silly "fooling around" stuff is scaring me too. i took ECP's last month as well, even tho i had not had sex. i think my best bet is to just stay away from anything male for the next 5 years at least.....

Re: possibly pregnant -- please help!!

The idea that you can get pregnant from sperm being near your vagina isn't really false, in the same sense that you can possibly kill someone with a q-tip or you can get struck by lightening twice in the same spot on the same day. It is theoretically possible. But that's what they tell us so we behave with an abundance of caution. (I don't really know anything about the q-tip or lightening- I'm just trying to make a point. )

Anyway I would bet my life that you are fine and there is no chance you are pregnant. I know starting a family is probably the farthest thing from your mind, but if I were you I would really consider checking out a book from the library about how to get pregnant. The reason I suggest this is that it will teach you what it actually takes to get pregnant. I really don't mean to sound condescending- I had no idea about ANYTHING before I read one of these books, and I thought I knew it all. I particularly like Taking Charge of Your Fertility by Toni Weschler. It is as much about how to recognize your fertility signs to be able to avoid pregnancy as it is to use those same signs to achieve pregnancy.

I could just cry when I think of all the times I was in a similar situation wondering at 19, or 20 if I could be pregnant, when if I just had the right information I wouldn't have had to worry at all. Please please read this book, or at least browse through it. It is so sad everything they never teach us about our bodies!!

I truely don't mean this to be offensive, but in general...aren't health classes teaching children how you can or can't get pregnant? People can write anything on the internet, but if you really need a true answer, look up the information in a book, or atleast on a medical website.

Re: possibly pregnant -- please help!!

this in all probability would NOT get you pregnant. by some freak chance it did, as the saying goes, I'll eat my hat.

its good that your worried, but being worried all the time will spoil your fun. I know your scared, but honey if we all got pregnant that easy, I would have about 50 kids by now.

Re: possibly pregnant -- please help!!

no offense taken - actually, come to think of it, our "sex ed" in school was never very comprehensive - basically, we were told that girls get bigger breasts, release an egg and get their period 2 weeks later; boys get a larger "package" and can ejaculate; to have sex, a man puts his penis in a woman's vagina; if he ejaculates, they'll have a baby 9 months later; wear condoms or go on the pill; you can get aids if you have sex - thats what we were told up until we were about 15, and to be perfectly honest, my friend's dirty jokes had more detail.

we never talked about oral sex, anal sex, mutual masturbation, the fact one could be homosexual was mentioned, but never discussed in detail outright. the only "reproductive resource" in my area is a planned parenthood, and we were never told its location. in other schools, in other parts of the country(i'm in backwoods virginia) i'm sure they have wonderful, comprehensive sex ed classes, but they sure as hell dont have them where i am, and its like pulling teeth to even get sex/contraception/std info. from the doctors around here!

It's terrible how little they teach and then they're shocked at teen pregnancy rates! At least you're concerned about it, which shows you're responsible. Seriously, next time you think about it, pick up that book. It is SO informative!

Reallynervous,

Just like all the others told you, the odds of you being pregnant are so slim. Slim isn't even the word for it. I would say impossible, but as someone else stated, nothing is ever really impossible. But this is very close!!!! I've never read the planned parenthood material about sperm being able to live outside the body for a week, but as far as I know, and we've been to lots of Dr.'s sperm can only live for about 12 hrs. give or take, outside of your body and only about 3-5 days inside. I'm not being funny or rude, but I want you to think. Sperm doesn't walk, crawl, or run so even if it were alive and on your panties unless you were your panties inside your vagina how would it get there???? I know everything is going to be OK. Good luck.

This made me laugh out loud It's true, though, and I feel really bad for all these girls who are worrying needlessly. I've said it before and I'll say it again: sperm does not have magical powers. It doesn't plow through clothing, it isn't absorbed through the skin on your chest, it doesn't live for a week outside the human body. If you get semen on your hand and you wipe it off, you CAN touch your genitals without impregnating yourself. For you to get pregnant without having a penis in your vagina, a whole glob of semen has to land on your vaginal lips and somehow seep inside, or you'd have to have a fair amount on your hands and you'd have to physically insert it into your vagina. It takes MILLIONS of sperm to break down the covering of the egg and let one lucky sperm get through. Millions. Not a single sperm that travels from your hand to your vulva, up your vagina, past your cervix, etc.
