Period every two weeks - Sexual Health - Women Message Board

I am 47, married, and have for a couple of years I think, had a period every two weeks (usually quite heavy). My GYN doesn't act like it is a big deal. I have had lab work done - I am NOT perimenopausal. This is making me crazy, not to mention ruining my sex life. I would like to have sex when I feel like it not just because I'm not on my period. I am wondering if maybe I should ask for the pill (husband has had vasectomy so I don't need it for BC) just to regulate my period, but I am afraid of the cancer-abetting effects of estrogen. Any thoughts from anyone who has been in this situation?

I believe you should see your gyno again or get another one. My sister in law
has the same problem it became worse they found she has fibroids non cancerous tumors. She is only 40 yrs old she is scheduled Nov. 30 to have them removed.

I agree with the other poster and would seek another doctor's opinion for peace of mind. Although I'm no expert, it sounds to me like you're going through menopause. It could even be something else, something that needs attention like some growth. I'm not trying to scare you, but I certainly would want another doctor to check it out and see what he/she thinks. Although I don't consistently have periods every two weeks, it does happen sometimes. I also go for a few months without having a period. I'm 49 and going through menopause. I just had my annual pap and the doctor told me that I have a cervical polyp and I don't know if they can be cancerous or not, but I'm thinking about seeing another doctor. This one doesn't seem too concerned and I can't help worrying and thinking about what if I don't see someone else for an opinion and it turns out to be cancerous or something. I just need that peace of mind. I wish you luck with your problem. That would get awfully annoying having your period so often. I'm sick of it so as it is. After having to put up with it for over 35 years, I'm ready to be done with it now once and for all!

Thanks for the replies. My current doctor keeps telling me I am not perimenopausal and I've even had numerous blood tests to check. I have scheduled an appointment with a new GYN for 9/15. Something has GOT to give!! I will post the results of that appointment. I have also been researching hysteroscopy and ablation which is from what I understand where they cauterize the vessels in your uterous to control the bleeding. I have a friend who had it and says it was the best thing she ever did. I am going to ask the new doctor about it. Thanks again.
