Septate hymen questions

Hey guys, my girlfriend and I recently came to the conclusion that she has a septate hymen. I have never seen her "down there" or had sex with her, only touched her. She told me she has a "thing" in the middle of her hole. She doesnt use tampons and I can't stick my finger in very far because it hurts her if I go in too far. So now I have a few questions:

1. how hard will it be for me to insert my penis into her? (when we are married, we have decided to wait, and we are both virgins)

2. what is the likely-hood that the septate hymen will break once I try to insert it in. Will it break fairly easy or will it take alot of sex to break it.

3. how common is a septate hymen? is it fairly common or is it very rare?

4. her gyno has never mentioned it to her in all the visits she has made. The gyno generally says everything looks fine. Does this mean that the gyno thinks it will break at first intercourse? Why would the gyno (its a woman gyno) not tell her?

Re: Septate hymen questions

Has she had a full exam? Pap? It's odd the gyno would not notice. I'm not sure if what I had was "septate" hymen but it was much thicker than normal, very painful. I had to have surgery to correct it, gyno said it would have been extremely painful to have sex. I think they just took the abnormal part and left a little bit of a hymen. It's fairly easy, it's a dnc, they can iether do general or local aneth. I chose general as I didn't really want to be awake for that...
I don't think it's all that uncommon really, but honestly she needs to mention it to her gyno herself.. you should be able to talk to your doc about those things.

Re: Septate hymen questions

intereseting! Im 26 now but when I was 12 I knew my hymen was abnormal in that there was an extra piece of membrane that joint over my vagina vertically like a string and I knew there was no way I could ever have sex with it like that so I used a craft knife and cut it so I had a uniform opening!! Gross I know. If u google hymen types it shows what a normal hymen should look like and what a septate hymen looks like. I feel terrible for the poor little muslim girls who are expected to have perfect hymens that break easily when there are cases out there that need surgical intervention! I know it is strange that a 12yr old girl would think to do what I did but its saved me hassle later in life. Its just a shame that I have only thought to investigate hymen types so much later in life, I just thought that my hymen was like everyother girls but that maybe mine was thicker - not so, septate hymens generally require surgical intervention if you dont want the worse pain during sex
