Libido and Testim (Man's RX)

My uro put me on Testim (testosterone) jel for low to none libido. I rub a dab on thigh or calf daily. It's suppose to increase my libido. I'm also on Vagifem suppository and Vivelle patch (hormone replacement therapy).

I find that the Testim or combo is causing me to have a difficult to reach and rather weak climax. I've read/heard that putting a dab of Testim on the clitoris a half hour or so prior to intercourse would help. Anyone here have experience with Testim? If so, did it help you? Thanks, Tee

Re: Libido/Testim 1% (Women)

Testim is in an alcohol base, so I would think that putting it on your clitoris would burn for a while. The type of testosterone that women say they put on the genital area is usually a compounded cream from a compounding pharmacy. I have read that it is recommended to put the compounded cream on the genital area. Perhaps some women who use either of these can add more insight.

Thanks for the reply Whytry. Do you know if the compound cream is used only prior to intercourse or must one apply it daily? I am concerned with facial hair and this Testim is really causing my face to become hairy. Thanks a lot! Tee

Re: Libido/Testim 1% (Women)

Tee, I'm not sure about the compounded cream, but I believe that it is used every day. My wife is going to talk to her GYN at her next appointment in a couple of months. With Testim, men normally start out using 1 tube per day. Since women only need 10% of what a man needs, that would mean that 1 tube of 5 gm of Testim should last a woman 10 days. I have also read that some doctors say to use 1 tube in a week, so that would be about 14% of what a man normally uses. If you are using a 5 gm tube up in less than 7 days then I would think that you are using too much.

Dr Eugene Shippen wrote a book called "The Testosterone Syndrome". He is one of the leaders in treating men and sometimes women with low testosterone. He wrote about one of his female patients who has found out that varying her dosage worked best for her. She was a lawyer and found that if she increased the dose on court days that she was more aggressive in court, so she started to skip the testosterone on office days and increase it on court days. She would use it on the weekends only if she expected to have sex. I don't know if this is a good idea, but perhaps you could ask your doctor if it might be good to use it only when you expect to have sex.

You said that your orgasm was weak with Testim use. How was your sex drive? Did it make you want sex more? I'm asking for my wife's information. She has great orgasms, but she has never really had a desire to initiate sex. She goes along with it and then gets into it when I start it. We would both like her to be a bit more aggressive at he start, so I'm wondering if it helped that aspect of your sex drive.

Whytry, Let me first explain why I go to a uro. I have (occult) micro-hematuria. I have an annual urinalysis. I changed uro and ended up with "Dr. Rob" a few months ago.

I was on Estratest HS (HRT) and Vagifem suppository for vaginal dryness when I started seeing Dr Rob. At that time my libido was OK and orgasm was super-great. I really enjoyed sex and did initiate sex with my husband.
Dr Rob did blood-work and it showed my estrogen was low but my testosterone was fine. He took me off (oral) Estratest HS and put me on the Vivelle-dot 1 mg patch as it is "safer." He said to make up for the testosterone that was in the Estratest HS, he would put me on Testim which would provide me with the testosterone the patch did not provide. He said one 5gm tube should last 2weeks. He showed me the amount to put on my calf. The tube actually lasted 19 days. I might not have used enough. The first and second time my husband and I had sex after starting the Vagifem/Vivelle/Testim regiment, my drive was very low and climax was just barely there! Then BOOM! Since then I've not had any desire for sex and feel absolutely nothing when we have sex. I have to return to Dr Rob on the 29th of this month. I think I'll inquire about the compounded cream. Tee
