Hello,

I am a 19 y.o female and I had a question. I was raped at 13, and since that happened I was wondering if my hymen was still...there. Yes that may seem odd, but for someone who wanted to keep their "virginity" until marriage, it is important for me to know if it is still intact. Anyway, I checked myself in a magnifying mirror and realized i look like i have 3 sets of lips- my labia majora, labia minora and a small set of lips inside of that. They are fairly thick...1cm approx....
To see if it was my hymen, i inserted 4 fingers side by side to see if it would break, but there was no pain or resistance. Is this my hymen? Remenants of my hymen? Anyone?

Rather than guessing, why not see a gyno about it? They should be able to tell you if it was broken or not.

I'm so sorry you had to go through that.

Unfortunately, if the rape consisted of complete vaginal penetration it is very unlikely your hymen was left intact. The hymen is a thin membrane right at the opening and if you still had it you would clearly see it covering your vagina leaving just a little hole.

That said, the hymen shouldn't be considered the true indication of virginity anyway, because many women's hymens are broken from things other than intercourse.

And while technically you you may not be one either, you have yet to have consensual intercourse, or 'make love' or anything like that which makes you a virgin in that sense (using the looser definition of virgin that can be applied to anything someone hasn't done before, not the first strict dictionary definition. Like say a 'skydiving virgin'.)

I think the first time you make love to your chosen partner it will be as special regardless of whether you have that little piece of membrane or not. It's what's in your heart.
