Oral sex and bacteria in the mouth

I apologize if this is a dumb question, but I was thinking about this since my recent recurrence of BV. There are many causes of it, but with oral sex I know you can easily get an STD. That I'm sure of. The mouth contains lots of bacteria and when I was bit on the hand by a child this summer (don't ask) and it broke the skin I was given antibiotics in the emergency room since human bites are worse than animal bites apparently. I'm getting to my point. So the mouth contains lots of bacteria, is it possible for a male giving oral sex to a female cause infections like bacterial vaginosis or something? I know it sounds far fetched, but I just wondered if bacteria in the mouth can upset the environment in or around the vagina?

I'm in a monogomous relationship, but I just wondered. I apologize if I sound ignorant or stupid. I just want to know.

Re: Oral sex and bacteria in the mouth

I have never heard of it. I have never even heard of anyone contracting an STD from recieving oral. I know you you can get an STD from giving, thouhg. When recieveing oral you are not getting any fluid besides saliva, and saliva itself is fairly clean. The bacteria in the human mouth, isn't from the saliva, I belive it's from food particles and what not in your teeth.

Re: Oral sex and bacteria in the mouth

I should make it clear I'm a girl, I keep getting bacterial vaginosis infections. I can't figure out the source exactly since I wash the right way and don't use douch or scented soaps and use nonlatex condoms during intercourse. And I was tested for STD's twice and don't have one. So I'm just trying to find out if oral sex can upset the female genital environment. I guess not. That kills my other theory.

Re: Oral sex and bacteria in the mouth

I used to suffer from this problem a few years ago. I just couldn't seem to shake it. After the second infection my GYN said that I wouldn't need any meds because BV can just go away. I thought she had to be insane. But a few painful months later it did just go away.... for good.
I found myself asking the same questions that you are asking yourself. And I asked my doc, she said that it really was't that big a deal, and that your body is just over producing bacteria and the infection is just the way your body flushes out the excess. I know it hurts but if you are doing what your doc says, rest easy knowing that it will one day go away and take all the pain and itching with.

Good Luck

Re: Oral sex and bacteria in the mouth

Sorry about that skip! I sorta have the same problem.. I have had some kind of infection for years and it won't go away. I went to the gyn once and it cleared for a while ( about 2 weeks) and then it came back again. I plan on visiting a new doc to see if I can get rid of this for good.
