Question Itchy, raw, red, sore vagina. Help!

I am at a loss as to what is going on with my body and am in desperate need of some answers. I have been to the doctor 4 times now. First time, I was given meds for a bacterial infection. Second time, told I have a yeast infection and took monistat. Third time, doc said I looked fine and if I was having irritation still to try switching detergents, soaps, etc. The last time, I was told that everything under the microscope looked ok. There was a small amount of bacteria, but nothing abnormal and a few buds of yeast so I was given Diflucan. Something is obviously still wrong though as my "sister" is not happy with me.

My latest symptoms: Very red, irritated vaginal opening. The whole vulvar area appears red and swollen. Sometimes it is itchy and/or burny. There are some extremely red, raw areas of skin in the rear area of the vaginal opening and close to the perineum. The most irritation seems to be from this region. The irritation is always there, but tends to be worse at certain times than others. This has been going on now for several weeks. This last week has been the worst.
I have also been very tired this past week and have had a loss of appetite, but I am not sure if that is from whatever is wrong or the extreme stress and anxiety I have had in worrying about what this could be. Sometimes I feel like I make the symptoms worse from constantly thinking about them, but it's hard to think about anything else.

If anyone has had a similar experience or any advice/ideas to offer, PLEASE help! Thanks...

Other info: I have been tested and shown to be negative for the most common STDs. I have asked the doctor each time about the possibility of any other STDs including herpes, but they have said that I show no classic symptoms of the virus and do not seem to think the symptoms I have are connected to the virus.

Re: Itchy, raw, red, sore vagina. Help!

I used to get yeast infections all the time until I tried 2 full rounds of Cannisten 14 days total but was a few years ago and may only have to do it a few times. I also put a cool cloth on the swollen red area a few times a day and it's very soothing then apply the cannisten cream and vag insert. I also eat a yogurt everyday to keep yeast infections at bay. Also don't use daily pads for underwear and make sure your underwear has a cotton gusset. I hope it clears up for you. Take care. Sara

Re: Itchy, raw, red, sore vagina. Help!

Thanks for your quick response Sara. Nice to know someone is out there offering support and suggestions I think another trip to the doctor, perhaps a new one or specialist may be in order. (unfortunately though I don't have insurance at this moment so this problem has been emotionally and financially draining) The last doctor didn't seem convinced it was yeast causing the issues, but I can suggest a different medication to try such as yours besides the monistat and diflucan if the new doctor has any suspicions of yeast. It has to be something and something has to help here. Thanks again and my best to you...

Answersplz: Are you sexually active? If so, you could be allergic to your partners sperm or allergic to condoms. The yogurt is a good idea. Even try using some over the counter probiotics. Get some allergy tests done and see what that shows. You need to keep the area as dry as possible. I use pantyliners and change them a couple of times a day. Make sure you're not wearing tight pants. That area needs to breathe. A new doctor is a good idea. Try to limit your sugar intake as well.

Re: Itchy, raw, red, sore vagina. Help!

92261: I am sexually active, but have not had intercourse close to the time or since this problem started occurring. (some touching, etc. only) Therefore, I sperm, lubricants, and condoms are not an issue. The itching and irritation does seem to be made worse by any wetness, so I have been trying to keep dry. Problem is, I tend to have a lot of discharge normally. (it is not clunky or smelly or out of the ordinary) I have also tried to let the area air out, but of course that's not always possible. But I will try the pantyliners and asking about other possible allergies can't help.
In addition to my other symptoms, my upset stomach has seemed to have gotten worse. I am still not hungry, and if I do eat, I end up with diarrhea. I also was noticing some whiteness on my tongue that I'm not sure is associate or not. I may be over analyzing here, but I am looking for anything that may be clues as to what this is plaguing me.
Thanks for your responses!

Re: Itchy, raw, red, sore vagina. Help!

Hi Well for discharge I would use a warm water douche. Afterward dry with a clean terry cloth that can be sterilized or disinfected well, alternatively a cool hair dryer has been used.

Sometimes a nice anti-itch cream with nice results.

If that didn't work a naturopathic herbal professional might help.

Re: Itchy, raw, red, sore vagina. Help!

I had an itchy vulva for over 5 years and so many doctors didn't know what was causing it. Turned out I have VIN stage 1 and 2. This means I have pre cancer cells. My gyno did a special wash test in his office and the area turned white, he then did a biopsy. You ask your dr about it. Also called dysplasia

Re: Itchy, raw, red, sore vagina. Help!

Misty: Thanks so much for sharing. I am not sure if there is any connection, but I did have some cells removed a number of years ago when diagnosed with cervical dysplaysia. Either way, that is definitely something to consider and will certainly ask the doctor. (First thing Monday I am going to try and schedule an appointment with the regular gyno that I had prior to losing my insurance)
Where your symptoms strictly itching or did you also have burning/irritation? Any discharge or other noticeable factors?
