what is a normal testosterone level in women?

I had some routine bloodwork done at the request of my gyno, and she tested my testosterone levels. All I got from her office was an "everything looks fine" with no other qualifiers...

The test printout shows a normal adult female range of 6 – 86 ng/dl, and mine was 59...is that good or not? With such a huge range there has to be an area where most women fall, right? I actually expected higher, since I have always been a bit on the hairy side for a female, and also have a strong libido most of the time...I was surprised it was that low.

I'm 32 by the way.

Yet other places I've read say you SHOULD be in the 50 - 100 range, and others have said that anything over 50 is "elevated" and a possible sign of PCOS...

Re: what is a normal testosterone level in women?

You certainly have many different ranges in your post and I have no idea what the standard is. Initially I was going to say, it looks like you fall square in the middle of the acceptable range but then you listed some other acceptable ranges and now, I don't know.

If I was you, I would hit the internet and find out as much info as I could and try to figure things out for myself. This day and age, that task is easier than ever. Give it a shot. My guess is that you're fine and even if you're a touch high, it's still OK (that's why they have "ranges"). I seriously doubt your level is going fall outside any range you're able to locate; just a hunch.
