Painful sex after menopause

I was handling menopause well until the sex became too painful. I tried the KY and Astroglide, but it was just not enough. We would have to pause and add more, but it was still very painful. I felt like the vaginal opening was riping open as if giving birth. I went to the GYN and she gave me a RX of Estrace, but I am afraid of the possible side effects. Can anymore tell me if they have used it for painful sex? Did it work? Were there any side effects? Did you try cutting back on the dosage? Are you still taking it?

I swear menopause is the pits

Thank you for your thoughts and advice

Re: Painful sex after menopause

you can feel comfortable using vaginal estrace it usually does not enter the blood or effect your body in other ways it just helps with the thinning of the vaginal walls ..hope this helps you.

Re: Painful sex after menopause

I've been on HRT for a number of years with no problems so I would not be the least bit concerned about using Estrace. I understand it is very helpful.

Re: Painful sex after menopause

Thank you both for your positive feedback. I just hope the Estrace works. My only problem with menopause symptoms has been this. I feel fine and have minimal hot flashes. Of course I could never ask my friends about this because my luck they don't have this problem! When I asked them before about hot flashes they just looked at me like I was a freak. I appreciate the honesty and helpfulness of the folks on Health Boards.

Re: Painful sex after menopause

Estrace worked well for vaginal dryness which lead to painful sex, however it gave me horrible migraines so I stopped using it. Nothing else has worked for me so we just stopped having sex. I miss the closeness we shared but not the pain.

Re: Painful sex after menopause

I had terrible side effects from the hormonal cream. Is there anything else other than a sexless future?

Re: Painful sex after menopause

Personally I use Hrt from a compounding pharmacy a low dose I still have my uterus so use progesterone, also I take testosterone and its all in one capsule..I like having a sexual relationship with my husband and want it to continue as long as possible..but each woman or couple have to make that decision for themselves.
