Question spermicide allergy?

Okay here's the deal....I've been sleeping with a guy at school off and on for a couple months now. At first there weren't any problems. I slept with him the third week in December before break started, and ended up with a yeast infection (or at least that's what I thought it was at the time) a couple days later. I get them every once and awhile so I didn't think much about it. I used monistat and that worked. Once the yeast infection was gone I noticed that I was having a lot more discharge than usual (no pain, burning, etc though). I had an appointment on January 6 for my annual exam, and brought it up there. When she did the exam she said that she suspected I had an infection because of all the discharge and took a sample to look at under the microscope. She came back and said that she couldn't find anything...no yeast, bacteria, nothing. I also had all the tests for STDs done, even though I really don't think that's what it is. And wouldn't she have been able to see something under the microscope? I'm still waiting for those results. Anyway I came back to school and slept with the guy again Monday night. When we had sex it did hurt some, but that's not totally unusual. Tuesday morning when I woke up I knew something wasn't right....once again it felt kind of like a yeast infection....some burning, itching, and a lot of discharge. Also later in the day I ended up having a really bad cramping feeling, but it's not actually cramps because I'm not on my period. Today the burning/itching isn't as bad, but I'm still having a lot of discharge. I still feel sorta crampy. I was wondering if it's possible I'm allergic to the spermicide on the condoms? I've used condoms before and never had anything happen like this, so I doubt it's the latex. It is possible though that the condoms we used were different from the ones we used before. Maybe the others weren't lubricated, I'm really not sure. Does anyone else have allergies like this, and if so what kind of symptoms did you have? It just seems like too much of a coincidence that the last two times we've been together I end up with an "infection". I also looked up some stuff online and was reading about "Allergic Vaginitis". The symptoms sound pretty similar. Anyone else have any ideas what it could be? Thanks for all your help.

the EXACT same thing has happened to me...... my fiancee and i have sex often..... he's been away during the week for the past few months... so, we try and get it all in on the weekends.... ANYWAY, he's been buying spermicide condoms for the past few months... and i've gotten 3 yeast infections during that time... and feel "sore" after having sex with him more than once..... the thing is during the week when he's gone... i "recover" and then the SAME thing happens to me after we have sex with the spermicide condoms...... i only realized this a few weeks ago.... and since have been using normal lubricated condoms... and NOT ONE yeast infection or problem down there... we have sex up to 6-7 times over a 48 hr period .. and i'm not bothered at all down there.....

when all this started happening to me i didn't give the spermicide a second thought... and i REALLY thought something might be wrong with me... cause a year ago, before meeting my fiancee... i did get an std... (curable one but still).... and so, any minor problem "down there" now, freaks me out.... someone brought up the spermicide.... after thinking about it.... i've NEVER used spermicide in my life.... so, it just made sense that was it..... stopped using it... and sure enough... i'm just fine....

try using other condoms...... give it a week or two and see how that works....

My husband & I both are allergic to spermicide. I get sore and itchy, very much like a yeast infection. He gets sore too and gets a rash on his penis.

It's entirely possible, Nonoxynol-9 is a godsend for some people, but it IS a detergent, and it IS irritant.

also try to stay away from lubricants that contain glycerin -- which'll be hard, I know -- because they can tend to precipitate a yeast infection.

ILL SHARE my knowledge with you all...
spermicide contains a very strong chemical called non-oxynol 9, and it has been proven to cause yeast infections in women. I had yeast infections very frequently and could not figure out why. when i went to the gyno they asked me if i had contact with spermicide, and when i told them yes they said to stay the hell away from the stuff. ever since we stopped using the spermicidal condoms i have not had a yeast infection since.
so just stay away from it!!! lol
